I saw Senator Fetterman being interviewed by Ali Velshi a little while ago. As I wrote earlier today he was clear he’s supporting the President and believes Biden is up to the job. What’s been eating at me that I couldn’t quite put my finger on until now is a general theme that’s emerged among an increasing number of Democrats and pundits. It goes something like:

“Joe Biden has been a great President. He was just the President we needed to come in and fix the myriad of messes Trump created. Biden not only succeeded beyond our hopes but created what history will see as a strong legacy. Given all that he’s ‘earned’ the ‘right’ to determine how to gracefully step aside since he’s no longer up to the job, or at least won’t be for anywhere near a full second term.  But he HAS to do so and he HAS to do so soon. So we should give him a bit of space to come to what ‘we all know’ and recognize that himself. We should allow him a measure of ‘Dignity’ to realize that on his own and to engineer his exit from the Presidential stage.”

There are variations on that but that’s the general theme that’s been out there. And sadly, perhaps even tragically gaining steam. This afternoon I saw a blurb about Virginia’s Senior Senator Mark Warner joining the chorus. Call ME cynical but Warner once harbored Presidential ambitions of  his own, and I can’t help but wonder if he sees himself as a possible “savior.” I feel the same about other Democratic politicians who’ve done the ‘Biden should step aside’ bit.

I’m calling bullshit.  Even if it were justified (and I don’t believe it is) voicing it, and attempting to turn it into an inevitability has robbed the President of ANY of the “dignity” these sanctimonious anal orifices claim to be Biden’s due. No, as I wrote yesterday it’s kicking not just your teammate but your team’s captain when he’s down!  I liken it more to a freaking gang, where the leader has been busted and is likely going to be in jail for a while and top underlings who felt he was “getting soft and that’s why he got arrested” are making a power play. Even those not in a position to move into the top slot see a chance to move up in the re-shuffling of leadership.  So it is in politics when a long-time leader steps aside.

All along President Biden has been doing his job and doing it well. Better than most of our Presidents have in fact. He had one really bad night on TV and all of a sudden he should be shuffled off to some isolated retirement home?  You know what? Since that night he’s been campaigning and looking sharp and invigorated during appearances. He still makes gaffes but that’s nothing new. He’s ALWAYS made gaffes and sometimes some spectacular ones during all those decades of public service. He’s tending to his duties, both domestic and with foreign leaders and there’s plenty of challenging stuff happening. And it will continue. President Biden goes to work each day and gets the job done.

Name me a Democrat capable of stepping into his shoes right now who could deal with all he has to deal with AND beat Trump in November. Yes, there are a handful who could do one or the other of those things but not both.  I love Kamala Harris and believe she could step in effectively but win against Trump? She’s a she – a woman. Strike one. She’s not white. Strike two. And with other Democrats vying to step past her she’s stuck in the batter’s box with not just a 100mph fastball from Trump coming at her but additional ones from fellow Democrats!

The more we see of President Biden the better off he and the country will be. Gaffes and all. It will be interesting to see how ABC “teases” the interview the President did with George Stephanopoulos. Apparently they will show a good chunk of it Sunday morning. Sure, when no one will be watching.  There’s a transcript you can see of the 22 minute interview here, but you know what I think? If the President came across well the country will never see it start to finish in prime-time. No, the pundits and opponents (who will get their hands on a copy) will cherry pick bits and pieces to reinforce the ‘Biden’s lost it’ narrative.

Maybe I’ll have to eat crow but what I think is that the President did just fine. If he’d come across badly we’d have seen that interview aired (again, it’s only 22 minutes) tonight!

But let me finish how I started. It’s sickening and even despicable for people to try and claim the proverbial “high ground” with talk of allowing President Biden to make a “dignified” exit from the race. THEY have made that impossible.

Then again, I still firmly believe the President should keep doing what he’s doing. His job, and running for President. Polls, even at this point don’t mean jack. Late summer, come the conventions and post convention period is when the bulk of the country will start paying serious attention to the choice they will have to make for President. That is one thing that hasn’t changed.

And keep in mind Trump pushed to have his sentencing (he wasn’t going to get prison time, or if so it would have been suspended) and now it won’t  happen until September! You know what else will be happening? Jack Smith will be in judge Chutkan’s court laying out the case as to what Trump did regarding January 6 and why it’s NOT covered by SCOTUS’ gift of immunity!  Right when voters, not just political junkies but people struggling to get by day-to-day will be starting to pay close attention.  So while pundits will keep hammering their bullshit narrative, Democratic politicians and other influential people (including big money donors) need to STFU about this “dignified exit” crap and focus on getting the President re-elected.

  1. If keeping the Senate and regaining the House weren’t as important as keeping the White House, I’d be tempted to suggest that every single one of these “concerned” Democrats who are running for reelection be defeated in November (I’m not really sure if there are still any states that have primary elections still to come–I remember some states, back in 2016, had presidential primaries between February and May but they had primaries for their Senate and House races as late as September; if that’s the case for any of them, have them get their asses handed to them in the primary race).
At the very least, every single one of the panicking politicians should be refused entry to the Convention.

  2. Always one dick sucking nazi to voice their evil stupidity. Stick that thumbs down up your nazi ass. This is a war and YOU AND YOUR NAZI CULT ARE IN THE CROSSHAIRS ASSHOLE.

  3. Trust dem pols/voters to not only shoot themselves in the foot, but to blow their whole damned leg off. Should ANY dem pol say one more damned thing about Joe leaving the ticket, that pol needs to go. IMMEDIATELY and any/every way possible is acceptable. Put the in the crosshairs and quite frankly, if you want it to be literal crosshairs, go for it. We have one MONSTER winning issue right now for dem pols to run on: the corrupt s.c. overturning Roe. We should not be hearing/saying anything but the dems support women, the dems support access to total reproductive healthcare, the dems support women’s right to abortion. That is ALL dem pols/voters should be talking about because it will win the w.h., the senate and the house.

Sick and fucking tired of whoever is behind this bullshit although if I had to guess I’d say at the very least it is funded by the wealthy (who also need to be put in the middle of literal crosshairs, every fucking one of them).
