This version of Jesus that the right-wingers pray to is an entity unknown to me and I definitely don’t want to know the guy. Or his vengeful nutball father. This is not the Jesus I studied. Charlie Kirk doesn’t like gay people. Neither does Martha-Ann Alito and I guess we should actually thank them for finally saying the quiet part out loud. At least we all know where we stand, right? Everytime I hear this I think of a Star Trek:Next Generation episode where homosexuality was the norm on a certain planet but there were some heterosexuals born from time to time. So of course the heteros, in this fictional culture, had to undergo conversion therapy to fit into the society rather than just have it be accepted that some people are born heterosexual. It was a good script and this topic made a lot of sense when seen in that context.
People quote the Bible, particularly the Old Testament, as the Word Of God. Yes and no. There are a lot of crazy things in the Old Testament, including admonitions to kill children and blazing coals on your enemies’ head. For the time in which it was written, that level of savagery may have been acceptable. And if a man lay with another man, stoning him to death may have been the way to go. I don’t think that attitude has any place in a modern society.
Plus, if these so-called “Christians” are indeed the followers of Christ, the New Testament is called that because it’s a new pact, superseding the old pact. But I guess this version of Xians didn’t get the memo, because they hate the gays. They’re afraid of the gays for reasons nobody can fathom, but the hype is that being gay ruins the basic concept of family and the reality is that there are some nice families headed by gay and lesbian couples. And of course it gets worse.
While criticizing YouTuber Ms. Rachel for quoting “love your neighbor” to defend celebrating pride month, Charlie Kirk quoted a Bible verse used to justify stoning gay people “to death.”

Maybe the “God” of their misunderstanding. This is what the religious fanatic Republican lunatic fringe looks like. And this is who votes for Donald Trump. Maybe not the two dozen or so gays who came to Mar-a-Lago to hear Melania speak a few months ago, but the rank and file gays, nationwide, know what Trump’s about.
I am so watching for “Mr.” Kirk to come out of the closet. No one comfortable in their own skin is THAT afraid of other people. He definitely protests too much.
Surely you do not wish such embarrassment upon the LGBTQ+ community. They’d be mortified.
Ursula, a minor correction about that STTNG episode: While the story was a metaphor about the LGBT community, the actual detail was that the alien races was androgynous, a non-gender race. And the “correction” was done when an individual began expressing or exhibiting gender-specific traits. (The reason it was a flawed metaphor was the alien who started having feelings for Riker began exhibiting female-specific traits. Actor Jonathan Frakes has noted that he would’ve preferred the alien begin exhibiting more male-specific traits to really push the metaphor but higher-ups didn’t think it would go over well.)

Surely then kirk agrees that Von Shitzinpants also deserves stoning–according to G_d’s law BOTH adulterous transgressors are put to death and kirk’s turd emperor is nothing if not an adulterous transgressor. I’m sure kirk has some sort of excuse for why the p.o.s. he worships doesn’t deserve a death sentence but everyone else does. Hmm, crickets. Go figure.

Love the stoning scene in Monty Python I believe in Life of Brian where the high priest, John Cleese, brings an elderly man for stoning for saying Jehovah. The crowd are all women wearing fake beards. The man is unrepentant saying the only thing I said to me wife was this halibut was good enough for Jehovah. In the end the man was spared but the high priest was stoned…ahhh the lethal foolishness of humankind. Will it ever end?

A hefty chunk of theologians, the ones who understand the historical context, think the Leviticus verse refers to ritual sex with male pagan priests, which was considered sacred sex by the local.pagans. That makes the sex in that verse actually being an offense against the first commandment: “having strange gods before me.”
P.S. If you really want to.make them turn purple and have their heads explode, point out that YHWH himself acknowledges the existence of other gods.
