I love it when evidence of some kind of common sense existing in this country comes to light. The fantasy of the hush money conviction being “great for Trump” is just that. It’s a fantasy. As Rick Wilson points out, “Not a single person who says ‘I wasn’t voting for the 38x criminal felon before but the Democrats being so mean has converted me to a MAGA fan and Trump voter’ exists in the universe. This is one of the oldest PR tricks in the MAGA portfolio, and one the media is taking hook, line, and greasy sinker.” Trump has stumbled in subsequent interviews about exactly how many milllions of dollars he got in overnight contributions right after the unanimously guilty verdict, sometimes $30M, sometimes $40M, but it’s always a gigantic figure.

If you go on Twitter, people are saying things like they canceled their summer vacations and gave the money to Trump because they were so outraged. Bull pucky. As has been pointed out on this blog and elsewhere, if trials are so terrific for Trump, why has he moved heaven and earth to have the other three postponed until after the election? Here’s the real state of play.

First, the Divided States of America rarely produces the kind of polling outcomes that existed in the era before 2016.

I may write more about the polling flood, but here’s are four quick takeaways for you:

  • A majority thinks the case was fairly decided.
  • A plurality think Trump should end his campaign.
  • Being a felon hurts him with independents, Bannon Line Republicans, women, African Americans, and Hispanics.
  • Between 10-20% of Republican voters say they’re less likely to voter for Trump because of these convictions.

Hit Him At His Weakest Spot, Not The Immovable Base

The differences between the MAGA base GOP voter and the growing cohort of Lincoln Project Republicans and conservative independents on the Bannon Line are political, moral, cultural, and aesthetic.

We saw how Nikki Haley became a sink for their anger and anxiety about Trump in the GOP primary. Now, they’re pinging the sonar like a pack of destroyers hunting a U-Boat. Remind these voters every day that they were right about their reservations over Trump in 2016 and in 2020. We’re not selling to the mooks. We’re selling to the middle.

The Double Hater Escape Hatch Closed A Bit

The “double haters” had an easier time when it could in some way be argued this was a contest between Republican Trump and Democrat Biden. That allowed the old partisan gravity of the GOP to draw them back to a grudging vote for Trump.

Now, the Double Haters have to cast a vote for a convicted felon. Say what you will about Joe Biden, he’s not a criminal.

No, he’s not, but the Great Both Sider machine keeps juggernauting on and so if MAGA and the House Republicans are lucky soon they’ll have Hunter Biden in court. But don’t fret too much about that. Jesse Watters says that because there are a lot of Blacks on the jury that they will acquit Hunter, ergo it’s not really a fair trial. But it’s something at least, right? Get somebody named Biden in a trial in summer of 2024?

This needs to be hammered home every day until November. The stakes of a presidential election have never been higher. Plus. Trump’s bouncing off the ropes right now. He’s worried about money, despite the fact that his daughter-in-law has the key to the RNC coffers, he’s petrified of his July 11 sentencing, he talks about appeals but have you seen an appellete lawyer hired or a request for a transcript ordered in either the E. Jean Carroll verdict or the hush money verdict? Those are the first steps. If they don’t take place, nothing else can take place.

It’s already the first week of June, normally a time of high campaign activity in an election year and Trump is busy playing golf. Hit him where it hurts. And don’t stop hitting him. He’s a convicted felon and an adjudicated rapist and he’s broke.

He recently sold of a $10M jet airplane to a Mar-a-Lago buddy and he wouldn’t be selling his toys if he didn’t need to. Plus, let’s see what his FEC filing actually reports about this gigantic windfall of money he supposedly received post-conviction. He can’t lie to the feds without creating more problems, so let’s see if he’s now suddenly flush and outraising Biden. It’s all MAGA smoke and mirrors until he proves it.

  1. Nothing he ever says is the truth EXCEPT where cruelty, revenge, and violence is involved. Those Hitler pronouncements of what he will do AS A DICTATOR, those you better count on and VOTE!

  2. Don Don is a documented ‘man of conviction’. He’s demonstrated he’s not conflicted at being convicted to being, as you state, above “… a convicted felon and an adjudicated rapist and he’s broke…” Yes, he’s a proven success at being a ‘man of conviction’ on many a level, in many an area, for sure!

  3. If the current squeaker of the house has his way, if Von Shitzinpants loses the election, he might not (I read that as will not) certify the election results. Squeaker Johnson is forgetting something: progressives are considerably more intelligent than cons and magats so if we go to D.C. to get rid of reactionary morons like squeaker boy, they WILL get a good case of gone. We could I suppose put a bullet in that empty head of his but why bother? We’ll just escort him out and I guess Speaker Jeffries will do the duty needing doing.

It’ll work on all levels-get rid of one more con xtian from a leadership position, probably empty the chamber of the rest of the idiots–a win-win. It is something we probably need to start planning because let’s face it: when they say they are going to break the law, and not certifying the election would be breaking the law, they do it. Let’s not risk it.

  4. You know. It’s kind of funny. A bunch of MAGAts in Congress have been trying to say that Biden’s DOJ has been prosecuting Trump to “get rid of his opponent” but when they’re asked about the Hunter Biden case, they wind up twisting themselves into pretzels trying to explain why the President’s son is being prosecuted (somehow, the failed plea deal that had been made somehow remains relevant to the current prosecution, though, for the life of me, I cannot manage to connect those dots–then again, I’m not a brain-dead MAGAt fellating at the altar of Trump).
What I wish someone would ask these MAGAts is this: If the Biden Administration is truly prosecuting political opponents, then why haven’t the likes of Margarine Traitor Greene and Bratty Matty Gaetz and Jim “Don’t let them grope me any more” Jordan been served with papers? Better yet, why haven’t the Trump offspring been hauled into court? Perhaps it’s because none of these scum-of-the-earth has actually done anything that merits a civil or criminal prosecution (at least, nothing that’s been presented to a grand jury for an indictment) unlike Donald Trump.

  5. Even the politicalist of political junkies are paying attention to Hunter Biden and his nothing burger trial. I think president Biden played it perfectly, never getting involved, not ranting or raving, just words of deep concern. Not one voter is going to say, I picked trump because of Hunter Biden.
