It looks like Joe Tacopina is rehabilitating his image as a legitimate lawyer. Good for him. If the GOP would simply follow suit and kick Donald Trump to the curb, it might rehabilitate its image as a legitimate political party. But no. The GOP has decided that it’s time to lie like rugs and pray that the American people are deceived. Right now the only platform that the GOP has in 2024 is “I am a political prisoner.”

Scott’s step-n-fetch it routine is flat out ludicrous. He’s making a fool out of himself. I don’t think Trump will pick him as his VP. That said, I don’t know who Trump will pick. Marco Rubio is also debasing himself, so maybe it will be Little Marco. Elise Stefanik filed an ethics complaint against Justice Juan Merchan. Maybe that put her a few notches up in the competition. It’s all difficult to say. But the clock is ticking and in six weeks somebody’s name has to be put on the ticket, if Trump is indeed atop the GOP ticket at the convention. So far that looks to be the case.

Here’s an interesting clip that needs wider coverage. Trump had a non reaction to news of the death of Ashley Babbitt. I share this clip here to prove up the core element of Trump’s character which is that the only one he cares about his himself. He didn’t care a MAGA follower got killed on January 6. He doesn’t care what he’s doing to the system of politics in this country. He only cares about himself.

Death isn’t real to Trump. He’s not connected to the world the way the rest of us are. He has zero social conscience. He’s in politics for all the wrong reasons. Reality TV was a good fit for him. He has no talent to be a real actor but cobbling together his Bizarro World persona on The Apprentice worked for him. It was a great reality TV freak show. That’s why it lasted on the air as long as it did.

Trump had enough going on to create a fable about himself. He had the model wife, and the nice looking children and the houses and trapping of success. All bought with inherited money.

The tragic part is that Trump and right-wing media sold this image as reality. And the GOP is fully on board for all this because they’re morally and spiritually bankrupt.

They’ve decided to destroy themselves over Trump. You will see them do just that in the next five months. Kudos to Joe Tacopina for getting out when he did and for telling the truth now. I daresay he sees the post-November future already. Trump’s going down for the third and last time. And anybody who enabled him or lied for him will be labeled the traitors that they are.

  1. You know, as long as Rubio doesn’t mind the embarrassment of not receiving his own state’s electoral votes as VP, then he can be a contender for Trump’s VP.

For all these “Constitutional scholars” who keep trying to make some deal about how the jury’s 34 “Guilty” verdicts somehow violate the Constitution (because of some requirement that each verdict must be unanimous*), they all seem to ignore the ACTUAL Constitution’s wording in the 12th Amendment that REQUIRES a state’s presidential electors to cast separate ballots for President and VP, at least one of whom must NOT be from that state. Since Trump moved to Florida (and, as I recall, he cast his 2020 Presidential ballot in Florida meaning either he’s a Florida resident or he committed voter fraud in 2020) and Rubio is a US Senator representing the state of Florida (and, if he’s not a resident of Florida, he’s actually not eligible to be serving in the Senate representing the state), that means the 2024 Florida slate of electors–presuming Trump wins the state–will have to decide whether they cast their votes for Trump as President or Rubio for Vice-President but they can’t cast their votes for both.

*Funny thing about that “unanimous” jury thing, that’s actually NOT in the Constitution. It IS codified into the US Code because it’s not explicitly stated in the Constitution. Funny thing: A few years ago, the Supreme Court heard a case from Louisiana in which the defendant was convicted and sentenced although 2 jurors voted to acquit the man. When the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 to overturn the Louisiana decision, and required that all criminal convictions must be unanimous, Gorsuch, in writing for the majority, said that it was “inherent” in the 6th Amendment because the Founders were using “established precedent” from English common law. Again–this is NOT actually *written* in the text but even Clarence Thomas was willing to agree due to the 14th Amendment (specifically the Privileges or Immunities Clause) even though Thomas has long refused to acknowledge any Constitutional claim of a “right to privacy” on the grounds that no such right is *explicitly* listed in the Constitution. Further, a genuine bit of irony is involved in the dissent as Alito actually wrote a dissenting opinion that said the Court should’ve respected “stare decisis” because Louisiana was operating under the Apodaca and Johnson rulings from 1972 (those decisions allowed for non-unanimous convictions in state criminal cases). Apparently, old Sammy boy likes to pick and choose when he’s going to follow “stare decisis,” given his readiness to overturn Roe just 2 years later. (At any rate, the whole “unanimous” thing is a bit moot–as I understood the verdicts, each of the 34 guilty verdicts WAS unanimous, even though Merchan had made some suggestion regarding no need for unanimity–although, that I believe, just applied to the counts, that the jurors didn’t have to find Trump guilty on all counts but they did need to be unanimous on the guilty verdict/s they did decide.)
