With New York District Court Judge Juan Merchan, a man of such mild manner and even temper that he requires no refrigeration, I think that Traitor Tot is finally going to find out what accountability feels like when dispensed by a man who not only doesn’t fear Trump, but who actually holds ultimate power over him.
And personally, I think that Judge Merchan is letting the first hints of his idea of justice for a problem man child like Trump looks like. Judge Merchan has scheduled Traitor Tot’s sentencing for July 11th, a mere four days before the opening of the Republican National Convention to confirm Trump as their 2024 nominee for the presidency of the United States. And when they open with the convocation, they’ll already know what the sentence for their potential nominee is.
Which opens up an interesting possible scenario. Even though Judge Merchan has been nothing but cool, collected, and polite to all sides in front of the jury, in hearings outside the presence of the jury, Merchan has not been shy in letting his anger and frustration with Trump’s cavalier attitude to his orders from the bench. In fact, he even warned Trump that future violations could lead to incarceration.
Here’s a scenario for you. On July 11th, let’s say that Judge Merchan sentences Trump to 90 days of home xonfinement in New York, where he was convicted, five years of probation, and a $100,000 fine. That would automatically be put on hold pending appeal. But what if he follows up with 60 days in the lockup for direct contempt of court. This could mean that the GOP nominee for President wouldn’t even be able to attend his convention, since he was in lockup. Likely? I honestly don’t know, but I don’t put it past Judge Merchan to make the point reestablishing the authority of the court.
But any way you slice it, it’s going to set up a total cluster f*ck of a convention. While Trump is the presumptive nominee, it is still the RNC’s nomination to award, and if it decides that Trump is either unqualified or untenable as a candidate, they could nominate somebody else. That being said, with Lara Trump holding the gavel, this seems unlikely.
But that doesn’t mean that there won’t be trouble. After the Access Hollywood video, the moderates in the party fled him, only to return with no alternative in sight. After January 6th, the moderates again ran from Trump like a clutter of kittens, only to return under pressure of losing the Trump base in the 2022 midterms.
This time is different. There is already organized resistance to His Lowness. A solid 20% of core GOP primary voters have already bolted Trump for Nikki Haley, and there’s nothing like 34 convictions to steel their spines. Also, this is Trump’s last rodeo, and there’s already moderate GOP resistance against him. If they determine that Trump can’t win, especially if the signs auger well for them in the Senate in November, they could try to hatch a nasty floor battle to oust Trump and nominate someone else.
But even if that doesn’t happen, this convention is going to be a nightmare for Trump and the GOP, I can feel it in my bones. For the simple reason that there’s one thing that neither Trump nor his idiot daughter-in-law can control. And that’s what happens on the streets.
I was 11 years old when the Democrats held their national convention in Chicago in 1968, and I was already politically aware and curious. I remember it well. The scene inside the arena was chaotic. Johnson’s refusal to run in 1968 left the party in tatters, with no clear consensus candidate. The speeches were bitter and divisive, and broadcast nationwide, showing the Democrats at their worst.
But the scene on the streets outside was even worse, with an uncontrolled police riot on display. And while Chicago Mayor Richard Daley tried to ignore the mayhem on the streets, others took to the podium to condemn him and his police state. The Democrats limped out of town and never recovered.
Look, I’m not saying that there’s going to be a police riot in the streets again, there almost certainly won’t, but what there will be in the streets is protests. And once again, the action on the streets could overpower the action inside the arena during the convention.
It goes without saying that there are going to be masses of pro Trump supporters flooding the streets around the arena to show their support. But especially with these convictions, there are going to be anti Trump protesters showing up in the streets as well. And that’s a potentially combustible combination, especially with the far right militias proclivity for violence.
The city can try to keep them separated, but good luck with that. They can pen the pro Trump protesters on one side of the arena, and the anti Trump protesters on the other side. But there’s a fatal flaw with that plan, and the city already knows it.
While the arena may be in one central location, all of the attendees, whether delegates, spectators, speakers or dignitaries, They will be coming from local hotels scattered to hell and back, and many of them will be walking to the arena. How do you keep people separated and orderly spread over a several square block radius? Remember, in Chicago in 1968, the most vicious fighting took place not in front of the arena, but in Grant Park, on Michigan avenue, and the surrounding streets, where the crowd control barricades were at their weakest.
But even if there is no violence, and I sincerely hope there isn’t, it’s still a nightmare scenario for the GOP. Simply because there will be protests, and they’ll be fairly large. And you know what they are? They’re free fodder for the networks, and they’ll take full advantage of it. Now, in stead of talking to a bunch of stuffed suits on the convention floor when there’s a break in speeches, they’ll be goin g to their outside cameras and reporters instead to cover the protests. And the last tihng that Trump and the RNC need is gavel-to-gavel coverage of anti Trump protesters taking up a half a city block. trump has been bragging about the incredible GOP unity around his candidacy. And if that’s what unity looks like, then the Democrats should have been unbeatable in 1968. Don’t touch that dial.
I thank you for the privilege of your time.

34 felony convictions…you’re on a roll Murf. Keep that crystal ball handy.
