Dean Phillips was the only person on the Democratic primary in New Hampshire but lost overwhelmingly to Joe Biden in a write-in contest. The man should take the hint and leave. Here’s what he told Axios earlier:

  • Phillips has insisted he will stay in the race up until the Democratic convention in August, but the critical voices will only grow louder if Biden dominates in New Hampshire with a grassroots write-in campaign.
  • A frustrated Philips pushed back today after reporters questioned whether his candidacy would help Trump, telling them: “I’ve said this 18,000 times. … You’re not asking the questions that Americans give a s— about.”

No, reelecting Biden is exactly what Democrats care about, or real Americans. Only the lunatics who want to watch Trump do political soap opera in Washington want to vote for him. Phillips needs to get out of the race.

And here’s an interesting point: Steve Schmidt apparently dumped him. Schmidt was hired to manage Philips’ campaign, if I understood correctly at the time, and I can only guess that he must have caught hell for it. I personally ended my paid subscription to The Warning, his newsletter and podcast and in the area where it asked “Why” I was leaving, I said that I believed that Dean Phillips was the equivalent of Benedict Arnold, trying to bleed votes away from Biden and if Steve supported him, then bye bye Steve. I tend to think I could not have been unique amongst people, because now Schmidt is listed as “advisor” to Philips and I don’t expect that relationship to last too long because he wrote a pro-Biden piece today.

Tomorrow morning, the 2024 election will begin. The choice will be a very unhappy one for multitudes of people. Life is full of disappointment and unhappiness, but that’s the way the ball bounces. There is only one American choice in an election between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. It isn’t Trump. It is Joe Biden.

The stakes could not be higher. The choice ahead may be imperfect, but it is what it is. Any person who is disinterested in retribution against the strangers in the supermarket or coffee line has no real choice. It is time to end the madness in this country, and deliver a hard “no” to our friends who have become enthralled to the worst man among them, who have set about to make him our king.

No thanks. The “no” needs to be thunderous. After its echo has silenced, we can start thinking about the future again. America will endure because, in the end, the good guys always win here. Donald Trump is as big a villain as there is. He is un-American and indecent. Sending him off into the twilight will be an accomplishment for all of us to share, and someday when the spell is broken, his lost adherents will thank us too. At least, their kids will.

Get ready. The fight is on. Get involved.

Now I have to assume that Schmidt has parted company with Philips and if he has any sense he would. And I get it, that Schmidt got good money for consulting. I understand the monetary reality of political consulting, political blogging, the whole ball of wax. I’m in this business, too. But I didn’t get in this business for money. I got into it for free to get rid of Trump and thank God I wrote well enough and often enough that I ended up being offered money and here we are all are, years later.

But the reality now is that money can’t be a person’s central focus in this business and I think Schmidt let it be his when he went to work for Phillips. The truth is that we are all at the same place where the founders were and we need to pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor to getting rid of the tumor on the body politic that is Donald Trump. And that doesn’t mean supporting a third-party spoiler like Phillips. That’s allegedly his next move, is to run on the No Labels ticket. If he does that, he will be labeled in the same class as Benedict Arnold. Let’s see if he’s that stupid or if he reads the handwriting on the wall and gets lost. I don’t know what wall needs to fall on Phillips. Seems to me this would be big enough.

Get a hint, Dean. Get a clue. And you might start by asking your “advisor” why he’s writing pieces encouraging people to vote for your rival, who just kicked your ass in the New Hampshire primary. That’s where I would start.

  1. Farce. NH should be more embarrassed by this than Trump’s win tonight. The state threw a tantrum. They kept Biden “off the vallot”, but kept Trump (insurrectionust) on. The next cycle, no Democrat should even bother. Skip directly to SC.

  2. Thank you Ursula for all you do. You are very brave to do what you do in this violent age we are living. Stay safe, but keep reporting.

  3. I worry (like hell) about No Labels but I’m pretty sure Dean Phillips doesn’t have a prayer of getting any support from them. At least not after tonight. The only person on the ballot and Biden got three times as many votes via people writing in his name? Hell, even Williamson got what, three or four percent via write in. No one outside his district ever heard of him before he started this nonsense. At it’s been nonsense like back in the 1960s but at least Pat Paulson was funny! No, the evil folks at No Labels will push someone with name recognition. Manchin, Sinema or someone else. RFK Jr. probably. They don’t have to have a good reputation or significant chunk of support, All they are looking for is someone with a recognizable name to offer to voters who are unhappy about a 2020 rematch. If they can bleed away just enough votes like Ralph Nader did in 2000 or Jill Stein in 2016 then they deny Biden and they can keep their fucking tax cuts. But Phillips isn’t going anywhere but to home and oblivion.

  4. I read an article that a billionaire founder of No Labels has a suit against No Labels for, I think, fraud. It seems that No Labels was supposed to be focused on non-political education, and the billionaire feels that the shift in focus blindsided him.

    • I saw (probably) the same article a little while ago. It’s late and my brain’s too fried to write about it but if our writers who live out west don’t while I’m asleep I might dig into this in the morning. There are a couple of issues when it comes to No Labels worth discussing in fact.

  5. This is the election result dingleberry should be worried about. President Biden wasn’t even on the ballot and he gets over 70% of the vote. Dingleberry WAS on the ‘pube ballot and only gets, what, 53%? That ought to scare him into filling several diapers.
