Oh, Rudy! How you make us laugh! You make the world laugh but you particularly make members of the legal community howl and snort and slap their thighs. You are the court jester, with Alan Dershowitz running a close second as Biggest Jokers In The Law. To bring you up to speed, Cassidy Hutchinson has published a tell-all book about working in the Trump White House and one of the tales she told was of America’s mayor, drunk as usual, putting his hand up her skirt on January 6, as John Eastman looked on and leered and the rioters ran through the streets of the Capitol, on their way to do in Mike Pence, at the behest of their MAGA master.
Rudy takes umbrage to this. He claims that he’s being defamed and he intends to sue Hutchinson in federal court. Just a few minor problems here: the truth is an absolute defense to defamation and Cassidy Hutchinson would at the very least obtain affidavits or propound interrogatories on the witnesses who saw this and maybe even depose them. I seriously doubt if anybody is going to perjure themselves for Rudy Giuliani. But that’s not the comical part.
The comical part is since his own lawyer sued him for over a million bucks in unpaid legal fees, no lawyer is going to work for Rudy. And a defamation case is not the kind of case, like personal injury, where you can get somebody to work on contingent fee. Ergo, Rudy is going to have to represent himself and as the old adage goes, “he’ll have an idiot for a lawyer.” And not just any idiot, an idiot who’s a co-defendant with Donald Trump in the Georgia election racketeering case. As I asked the other day, if 4,186 of you have an extra $325 just lying around, Rudy will do a cameo for you and that will give him the $1.3 million he needs to pay his lawyer. As will Don Jr. or Kimberly. The inner circle MAGAs have all taken a cue from Donald, and that is, make money being a celebrity. Why work? People should just give you money because of who you are.
Oh to have had a crystal ball on 9/11 and been able to foresee that a quarter of a century later Giuliani would come to this. Wow.
The image he presented and sold to the world on/after 9/11 of the strong leader who’d prepared his city for everything and would soon bring order out of the chaos was as phone as a three-dollar bill. Or Trump’s self-created image as a master business tycoon and dealmaker.
