Intriguing how musicians and far right-wing Republicans seem to clash, isn’t it? It’s like the night following the day. Marshall B. Mathers, III, whose stage name is Eminem, doesn’t like Vivek Ramaswamy using his music. So he wrote BMI, objecting to the Vivek Ramaswamy campaign’s use of his compositions (the “Eminem Works”) and requested that BMI remove all Eminem Works from the Agreement they have to license musical work to Ramaswamy. Who oh who is Ramaswamy going to imitate now? Elvis? Elton John? Daily Mail:

The correspondence goes on to say that ‘this letter serves as notice that the Eminem Works are excluded from the Agreement effective immediately.’

‘BMI will consider any performance of the Eminem Works by the Vivek 2024 campaign from this date forward to be a material breach of the Agreement for which BMI reserves all rights and remedies  with respect thereto,’ the letter read. […]

Ramaswamy had performed Eminem’s Lose Yourself 11 days before the letter was sent, at the Iowa State Fair, entertaining an early morning crowd gathered to hear him speak alongside Iowa’s Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds.

Reynolds had asked the 38-year-old biotech entrepreneur to name his favorite walkout song.

Ramaswamy had happily answered Eminem’s Lose Yourself.

Moments later, when the sound-tech guy started blasting the 2002 rap tune, which was on the movie soundtrack for the movie losely based on white rapper Eminem’s life, 8 Mile, Ramaswamy grabbed he mic and created a viral campaign trail moment.

‘Vivek just got on the stage and cut loose. To the American people’s chagrin, we will have to leave the rapping to the real slim shady,’ a spokesperson for Ramaswamy’s campaign told DailyMail.com, reacting to the cease and desist letter.

Well, he’s going to have to cut loose with somebody else’s work. And poor Vivek. He was counting on his skills as a rapper to get a lot of votes. Or something. Darn. [cartoon from the New Yorker]

  1. RW “pretender, poser & fraud”! RW are the “party over people” nothing else! RW have showed their true colors for years now! The Majority are aware of, who these people represent & it ain’t “Eminem”!

  2. The right wing, so proud of their intellectual and cultural superiority over us stupid, talent-less liberals and progressives should really only use musicians that agree with and echo their ‘philosophies’ and extol them through the cultural phenomenon of music and lyrics.

In exchange, they should leave to our side the musicians that agree with our philosophies, expressed through music and lyrics too, it’s only fair.

    So they get…

    I don’t know… just checking… Kid Rock?

And we get The Beatles, Eminem, Queen, Bruce Springsteen, Dolly Parton… well pretty much ALL the rest.

    Seems fair to me.
