This is an Occam’s Razor moment. The GOP needs to save itself. It is a corrupt, rotted husk. That’s not just hyperbole coming from the left side of the aisle, it’s a fact that the aware Republicans, the Never Trumpers, have been making over and over again for years now.
Donald Trump is no kind of a leader, he’s an entertainer and he made a freak show out of our government. He will make a fascist freak show out of it in short order, if he’s reelected. And he makes no bones about that. He’s openly declared his intentions of avenging himself on Joe Biden and the rest of his perceived enemies list.
There is a very simple solution.
“The leader of the Republican Party is a career criminal who attempted to subvert a free and fair election in an illegal conspiracy, and he has to be held to account.” @TheRickWilson explains on @MSNBC that Republicans must openly accept this fact in order to escape Trumpism. pic.twitter.com/ylMWpUieJ5

Wilson is spot on. The problem here is that what he’s suggesting requires a level of self-honesty, integrity and plain out guts that the people he’s talking about don’t have. Look at Kevin McCarthy, as an example. He’s the door mat for his caucus, not the leader. The outlier Republicans are the ones telling the truth and they’re paying a price for it. Liz Cheney is the poster child.
In the Senate, Mitch McConnell is silent as the tomb. He’s just put the Trump elephant in the room out of his mind, apparently. So there’s no leadership there.
Paul Ryan has chimed in from the sidelines that Trump must not be the next GOP candidate but I don’t think he’ll take the stance that Wilson is suggesting. I don’t think he’s got enough mettle, either.
What will happen is Trump will get the nomination and then we’ll deal with his latest constitutional crisis, however it manifests. Right now, it looks like there could be a January 6 Insurrection trial set as early as January or February. which means Trump could be sentenced before the GOP convention happens in the summer. Will they put a convicted felon at the top of their ballot?
We’re going to find out. Cast your mind back to 2016. Republican delegates were taking off their credentials and hurling them to the floor in frustration. Entire delegations, Iowa and Colorado come to mind, walked out the door. That was the level of conflict at that convention.
What will happen at this one? Blind acquiescence to GEOTUS, God Emperor Of The United States? Or some return to sanity? I think the former but it would sure be nice to be wrong.

The saga of the GOP since Trump descended that faux-gold staircase ranks with classical Greek tragedy. It’s a story of one deluded man’s overweaning ego, his hubris, leading to his destruction and with him, the destruction of an entire political party. The GOP was already rotten to its core; it took a man equally rotten to his core to expose it. The final act of this drama will be the ascension of Trump to the candidacy of the party despite his criminal acts and indictments. There aren’t enough gullible fools in the GOP to elect Trump president, but there are enough to finally rip the party apart beyond redemption. It has to happen: the Republican party is no longer worthy of a place in the American democracy.
Well said Jarvis Wellesly, well said!!!
As long as it helps bring about the real political issue of our times the end of morbidly corrupt billionaire’s money in politics, I’m sure most people will be happy.
This is a goddamn WAR to either the death of authoritarianism in America, or the end of our democracy. Sitting around hoping things will turn out OK is a pipedream, as the German people found out. Time to rise up and confront this stupid evil sh*t wherever you find it, and push the apathetic to get off their arses and VOTE.
It always seemed to me that, that marvel of greed, established earlier on in the Republican calls for unlimited amounts of dirty money to be funneled into politics, was a snaky way to push for un-electable do wrongs to gain entry into our lives at home …
Very apparently, I was correct, the Republicans went under the table in so many ways, a REAL solution to their greed and conspiracies, will require a huge flush of the Republican enablers and Trump-friendly actions, we already have a list of the most vocal and JUST BAD Republicans in our HOUSE … Start there ,,, it will require a large number of court cases and terms in prison … Our Grassley is a prime example of knowing about the Jan. 6 plans on the day before and also he has claimed total dedication to Trump, with, “No reservations”, he has done nothing to stop any of Trump’s blunders …
Have a good night, Trump’s days are growing shorter, but he STILL needs to be behind bars until the court sessions are finished … flight risk, ANYONE? (own Jet and crew, probably would have to shoot his plane down to stop him)
Except for the collateral damage to crew, I’d be okay with that. Anything to get him to shut the hell up.
I would love it if he flew off – how about to Epstein’s island. Then, all his worshippers could move there and anoint him King of the Philanderers and they will all live happily ever after. So will we because he won’t be able to set foot in the US again.
