This is how conspiracy theories are born and bred. Vice News had an episode in one of their documentary series about Ron DeSantis’s time at Guantanamo when he was a Navy JAG officer. The piece was set to air May 28. It did not. It was pulled from the air schedule with no explanation given. Seems like an odd thing to happen, doncha think? Hollywood Reporter:
Mentions of the originally scheduled episode, titled “The Gitmo Candidate & Chipping Away,” have been scrubbed from Showtime’s website and press portal. An email sent to press on May 24 noted that a screener of the episode was available; however, on May 30, a follow-up email noted a different installment, titled “Detransitioners & Draining the DRC,” as episode four.
No reason was given as to why the episode was pulled. “We don’t comment on scheduling decisions,” a Showtime spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter.
In a statement, a rep for Vice told THR, “As with all current affairs programming there can be scheduling changes, and we are very much still in discussion about the scheduling of this episode. We are proud of our reporting and of our continuing partnership with Showtime.”
In April, a report revealed DeSantis’ campaign is haunted by what could drop from the governor’s role in the military prison. He has already exploded over questions about the subject.
One inmate said: “I will never forget his face, he was laughing and smiling watching me being tortured on the force-feeding chair.”
Here’s what we know:
- This is an explosive subject with DeSantis;
- Some of the images in this documentary clearly do not paint him in a complimentary light;
- Showtime gave no explanation for pulling the episode.
I think Sherlock Holmes would say there is a causal connection between these facts. What that might be, I don’t have a clue. But censorship of something that would benefit the public to know about a presidential candidate is very worrisome. Very. And censorship is what this looks like.

Laughing at someone being tortured does sound like DeSantis doesn’t it?
This has that old familiar odor of cover-up, in this case DeSantis’ record as a Gitmo guard. If there’s footage out there of him abusing prisoners, or eye-witness testimony, we can be sure it will raise its head during his campaign. How difficult is it to “Never Back Down” when you’ve got someone in front of you immobilized in a chair? DeSantis is an IED at the end of a short fuse, and this could be the match that lights it.
Not a guard. A Gitmo JAG Corps lawyer witnessing violations of the Geneva Convention.
What? A torture film showing Marquis DeSantis laughing and smiling censored? Wonder if some of my old S&M buddies in Miami might have some video of him in action.
Nazis laughing during torture? Can it be true? I’ll save my chuckles for watching preyingmantis getting his wings pulled off on national TV. When he laughs…he appears to be a howler monkey.
Wasn’t DeSaster trying to.get a law passed forcing even unpaid bloggers to.register as journalists with the state?
Well Gillian…how else can you round up the press when you become the dictator?
