This could happen. Brian Kemp is a name that has come up, along with John Kasich, Larry Hogan and a few others, as a sane and rational alternative to both Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis. What Kemp brings to the table is the fact that he’s already gone toe to toe with Trump and lived to tell the tale, whereas DeSantis, Pence, Haley, Pompeo, and anybody else you can think of are scared to death to confront Trump. Raw Story:
Stating it was “almost a tragedy” Kemp is not running — so far — [Mike] Murphy [political strategist] suggested that, if the Georgia governor made the jump into the race by June he could “run the damn table as a late discovery.”
“What he needs is some of the money to come see him. Because I hear that’s what he’s worried about, Murphy explained. “Two days in New York and he would want to run for president because he would get $30 million in commitments. But apparently nobody has explained to him how that works.”
Murphy added that, if he were running the Kemp campaign, he’d sell the Georgia governor as “a ‘generational, effective outside Washington and proven Trump-proof’ candidate.”
These are all good points. The point that stands out most clearly here, however, is that Kemp has shown no interest and he’s clueless about how a presidential campaign works. Those are major drawbacks, to say the least, but they’re not insurmountable. Plus, it may help Joe Biden.
The logic there is that if Trump can’t get the GOP nomination he’ll run as an Independent and sink the GOP in the process.
Plus, Trump has already been unsparing in his contempt for Kemp. If they end up opposing one another for the GOP nomination, it could get brutal. Who knows what Trump might say or reveal about Kemp? I’m sure the primary would be toxic.
The interest in Kemp, Hogan, Kasich is grassroots level. It’s in the exploratory, inquiring stage. But put together some serious money and that could change.
This could be interesting. Keep an eye out for this.

He is a racist POS, and another fascist. He stole the GA election by purging black folks from the voting rolls. As long as the Guns Over People party pick fascists for their ‘beacon on the hill’, they will remain purely evil. As Aldo the Apache,(Brad pitt), stated in Inglorious Bastards, I didn’t come down from the Smokey Mountains, cross thousands of miles of ocean, fight my way across Sicily, and jump out of a goddamn plane, to teach the Nazis humanity. Nazis ain’t got no humanity. They are the foot soldiers of a jew hating, maniacal, mass murderer, and they must be destroyed. Bingo.
Not to toot my own horn (Ok, so I guess I am!) I’ve mentioned this possibility more than once in that not that long ago past. And again more recently. There’s no doubt Kemp would face some MAGA blowback for not balls-to-the-wall protection of Trump but the fact is Kemp did more than he should have in 2020. Still, he’s relatively young and Trump he had to figure was not only old but losing in the EC as well as the popular vote and losing by some of his endorsees meant Trump’s best days were over. He’s probably not the only one surprised that Trump is hanging on as much as he is. Kemp probably prayed multiple times per day that someone else, Bragg in NYC or Jack Smith would indict Trump before Fani Willis did. That would take a LOT of heat off Georgia and therefore him. And he probably saw the handwriting on the wall that judge Kaplan wasn’t going to put up with more delays and even if “only” a civil trial instead of criminal charges that Trump would face rape charges this spring. And maybe, perhaps likely lose due to the lesser standard needed in a civil trial.
Kemp is a dirtbag to be sure. A corrupt one who, had he not been SecState of Georgia and used his position to benefit his own candidacy for Governor in his first race against Stacy Abrams would have lost. Still, he’s got about as much personality/charisma as a used mop so I’m not sure he’ll hold up to the Presidential campaign spotlight. However again I’ve felt for a good while now that he’s harbored Presidential ambitions. For certain he was thinking 2028 but a part of him wondered about 2024 and he’s tried (IMHO) to keep himself poised to step into the “savior” role. IF as you suggest a campaign to draft him (one he’s undoubtably winked and nodded at if not outright discreetly encouraged much like McCarthur did during WWII) takes hold. All it would take is one mega donor funding a “Draft Kemp” campaign and we’ll literally be off to the races. I think next month will tell. Trump will be dealing with the fallout of losing his rape trial, and perhaps Jack Smith will drop the hammer on the Classified Documents charges at least. June could be the perfect time for a credible challenger to suddenly mount a serious campaign against Trump. And if there’s that one, just one mega donor willing to pony up BUT only if Kemp shows the kind of guts a President should have and goes for it then the political world will get major cray in June.
