Pat Robertson may be jealous when he hears this. He’s been claiming the ability to alter the course of hurricanes since 1985.  He’ll be plenty miffed when he hears this whipper snapper Ron DeSantis is stealing his thunder. But make no mistake, DeSantis is claiming to have done exactly that and with the help of the Wailing Wall, no less. If I was either Robertson or DeSantis, I would be cautious about offending The Almighty once too often. He might just strike both of these clowns with lightning.

‘Scuse me, Ron, you might want to think about praying harder about flood waters. The Ft. Lauderdale folks are pretty upset about you galivanting around Ohio, and then the rest of the world, on a pseudo-campaign tour, when they couldn’t get gasoline for four days.

Now we need to examine the question, who’s nuttier, DeSantis or Donald Trump? You may remember that Trump also had an unconventional answer to hurricanes and it wasn’t divine intervention.

Whether or not DeSantis believes his prayer was responsible for the weather, his comments echo the last time hurricane-evasion tactics were a subject of American political discourse. In 2019, former President Donald Trump suggested that the solution to catastrophic hurricanes menacing the United States could be to lob a nuclear bomb at them before they made landfall.

And Trump’s ideas about hurricanes didn’t stop there, as you may recall.

In May of last year, sources told  Rolling Stone that the former president was deeply concerned that China and other U.S. adversaries were developing a “hurricane gun” that could shoot storms in the direction of the United States. “It was almost too stupid for words,” said a former Trump official, “I did not get the sense he was joking at all.”

While DeSantis was surely relieved that Dorian did not make landfall in their state, and instead ravaged the Bahamas and several Caribbean Islands, under his governorship, Florida has seen disastrous hurricane seasons in the years since. In 2022, Hurricane Ian struck Southern Florida, causing $113 billion in damage and becoming the third most costly Atlantic hurricane in recorded history.

Better go back down to the wall and wail harder, Ron. Looks like that one 2019 prayer is starting to come loose a bit. The truth is, DeSantis knows he’s full of it, but he so wants to get the religious vote. Maybe he should stop talking about goofy miracles and be a moral man? Ever hear of that strategy?

  1. He is a concentration camp guard.
Do you know what we did to concentration camp guards when we liberated concentration camps in 1945?
    I do.
Why are Bush and Cheney not in prison for war crimes?

  2. I was going to spitefully suggest hoping his flight home to FL would pass over the infamous Bermuda Triangle and result in yet another “mysterious” disappearance. Then I realized whatever “entity” is responsible for the alleged weirdness of that patch of ocean wouldn’t want DeSantis in its depths! Hell, if his plane were to experience some failure that would cause it to crash in the Triangle the “powers” there would encase it in a cocoon of protection to ensure it made it home and landed safe and sound. That’s how huge a P.O.S. DeSantis is – so horrible the Bermuda Triangle wouldn’t want him as a victim!

And the very fact that such goobers as Robertson and DeSantis are still walking away unscathed after making such sacrilegious comments (and, yes, they do really qualify as sacrilege) is proof positive that God does not exist. He had no qualms in punishing Adam and Eve for simply disobeying a command (a command, incidentally, which is alleged to have proven mankind’s “free will”); He had no qualms in destroying the world because of all the “wickedness” that existed; He had no qualms in turning Lot’s wife into a pillar of salt for an utterly human reaction (just imagine how many rubberneckers we’d be rid of if God treated them as He did Lot’s wife); and on and on through the Old Testament. But all these modern-day goobers who claim to know the will of God and routinely make claims that they or their prayers prevented a natural disaster (and in Robertson’s case, at least a few claims that the disasters were “God’s punishment” for various sins–such as his outrageous claims about 9/11) and nothing happens.

I’m really surprised, though, that DeSantis would make such a claim about the Western Wall especially as it calls into question exactly how did he word the prayer. His own comments suggest that Hurricane Dorian didn’t hit harder because of the prayer but you’d think a prayer would’ve asked to spare completely, not just kind of “graze” the state. Granted, it’s not as selfish as “Dear God, make me President of the US” but a GOOD prayer–a CHRISTIAN prayer–would’ve asked for the hurricane to be stopped before causing any harm or damage to anyone. I’m also kind of curious as to exactly when DeSantis put this prayer into the Wall. Was he in Jerusalem in August/September of 2019; you know–when the hurricane formed and moving towards Florida; and if so, why wasn’t he in Florida at the time?

  4. I’m waiting for him to start saying people were coming up to him with tears in their eyes and calling him “Sir.” That can’t be far behind now.

  5. The scientific illiteracy of the GOP.never ceases to.amaze me. But then the ignorance of men about how the female human body works is at similar levels Women don’t pee from our vaginas, and generally speaking, we need foreplay.
