This is curious. Donald Trump is in New Hampshire and the topic of debating in the primary came up. He really does not think he needs to debate Ron DeSantis.

Matter of fact, he trashed Ron DeSantis. Now here’s what the point to ponder is: If DeSantis is so lame, why not give MAGAs a show? Why not let them see Trump in a cage match with DeSantis? Why deprive them?

But that’s where Trump is going, at least as of today.

Bush and Reagan were always happy to debate and always available for town halls, all that. This is something Trumpian that is getting foisted upon us. There’s something deeper here.

The stable genius doesn’t want to be on the same stage as DeSantis and I think he’s afraid to be. Why, I’m not sure. One thing Trump has going for him is that he’s quick with a comeback. DeSantis, on the other hand, is famous for not being able to think on his feet. He can only function in a tightly scripted bubble. You would think Trump would be dying to eat him alive on stage and listen to the MAGAs roar.

But he’s not. Go figure.

  1. Fine Mr. Marmalade. Just let President Biden’s team know what facility you call home, and the President will be there. Ron who?

  2. I think Trump has it a$$-backwards. He should be chomping at the bit to debate DeSantis. I agree he’d turn ole Ron into ground beef squished by a steamroller. And after that he could play to the GOP (and the rest of the country) a b.s. line about there being no point in debates with Biden. A “look at what I did to DeSantis!” type thing. As for debating Biden deep down where he hates himself for having to admit it he’s scared to death to stand on a stage with Biden for a debate. He knows that he’s got the MAGA vote in the bag and another fifteen to twenty million conservatives who hate having to vote for him but wouldn’t vote for their Jeebus if he was the Democratic nominee but that won’t be enough. Not in swing states he’s GOT to carry and he can forget about MI and PA. Probably Arizona too and GA voters keep proving that no matter what the GOP throws at them they will find a way to overcome it.

My prediction is that just as happened after the one debate with Biden Trump will huff and puff and complain the rules are biased against him and petulantly refuse to take part. In HIS mind the only “rules” are he gets to pick the panel and then gets all the time he wants for answers and is allowed to interurrupt Biden without consequence! So, Trump will make excuses and there will be no Biden/Trump debates. Personally, I think they should be scheduled and have Trump’s podium in view a LOT. Biden takes questions in the agreed upon format and gives his answers. Someone can pull up a Trump statement from social media on the same topic, and then Biden can respond, again the format’s allotted time frame.

That might look bad enough for Trump that he’ll show up for at least on debate. Maybe.

  3. Well, technically Trump has a point. Nixon, Reagan and Bush II didn’t have any significant challengers in their reelection campaigns, just token opposition. Bush I did have a challenger (notably, Pat Buchanan but also KKK leader, David Duke) but, during the 2020 GOP race, Trump basically stifled any primaries or caucuses simply to ward off any challengers (although there was some very minor token opposition).

It’s also worth noting that the Republican Committee voted, in 2018, to eliminate their debate committee, meaning any debates would be held without official party sanction or approval.

  4. I’m scared to death of this guy I have a 20+% lead over. I’m scared to death to debate him.

    See how silly that sounded.

  5. I really don’t think anyone really wants to see Trump** debate DeSantis. We’ve all heard it all before. It would be like

    “Oh yeah?”
    “Yeah!”
    “Oh yeah?”
    “Yeah!”
    “Oh yeah?”
    “Yeah!”
“Well – up your nose with a rubber hose!”

  6. A debate between Trump and Biden however would be the equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel, with Trump being the fish I’m thinking? Trump will have at least two convictions in place and maybe sentenced on them too. The 34 charges in the Stormy Daniels affair and the assault charges he faced yesterday. Debate? Biden will have a field day? Then again it’s pretty hard to tell that tears in his eyes BS story he told suck up Shaun Hannity on Fox News, When the guy is standing right there on the stage with you. What was that Mr. President about those tears?
