We don’t have a functioning House of Representatives right now but the Senate is functioning, glory glory. A resolution was advanced this morning, 52-47, to prevent Donald Trump from taking further military action in Venezuela without congressional approval. This is how things are supposed to work. And five Republicans crossed the aisle and voted for it. They are now at the top of Trump’s $hit list, make no mistake.

It is a sad day indeed when we cheer things working normally. Expect this to be the new template for 2026, the House in a dead stall and the Senate plugging along — at least until Trump manages to terrify more senators. Rand Paul is already on Trump’s $hit list, that’s nothing new. Collins and Murkowski likewise appear there on a regular basis. I must say I’m surprised to see Josh Hawley stick his neck out.

Todd Young is not so surprising. He’s from Indiana and a former Marine. The Indiana State Senate recently rejected a redistricting proposal so it stood up to Trump. Maybe the Hoosier State is going to start a new trend.

In all events, seeing any evidence of a working government is a true balm for the soul. Terrible that this is the way of things but this is the world we now live in.

(Moderator’s Note: Link removed. Yes, we can and do allow some graphic talk. Some say too much so. Hell, I once posted a black & white cartoon of a caricature drawing of Trump at a conference table with dudes sitting there with him. It was apparent he’d just gotten a handjob to completion – and the caption was “Next!” It was a cartoon however and what was going on under the table was implied rather than shown. A link to an adult content site is too far so please dial it back a bit moving forward.)
