The wannabe dictator is rattling sabers now. Reuter’s is reporting that hundreds of National Guard troops are on standby to deploy to Washington, D.C. Trump is claiming that crime is rampant in D.C., even though crime is down 25%. But Trump doesn’t listen to statisticians or fact checkers, as we know. He depends upon “instinct” and what his personal ideas are on any given subject. Trump’s simply dying to turn Washington into a police state. In fact, he’s got a news conference to justify that very thing scheduled for tomorrow and away we go.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one of the officials said it was that while it was unclear what exactly the troops would do, they could take part in efforts to protect federal agents or even carry out administrative tasks to free up law enforcement officials.
The deployment of the troops in Washington, if and when that happens, comes after Trump used the California National Guard, which is controlled by that state’s governor, to counter the immigration raids in Los Angeles in June.
On Sunday, Washington DC mayor Muriel Bowser said it was the President Trump’s prerogative to call out the DC National Guard, which he controls.
“I’m concerned about them not being used efficiently,” said Bowser, who highlighted the drop in violent crime. “And I just think that’s not the most efficient use of our guard,” Bowser said in an interview that aired Sunday on MSNBC’s The Weekend.
Donald Trump on Sunday vowed to evict homeless people from Washington and jail criminals, despite Washington’s mayor arguing there is no current spike in crime.
“The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital. The Criminals, you don’t have to move out. We’re going to put you in jail where you belong,” Trump posted on the Truth Social platform.
The White House, however, declined to explain what legal authority Trump, who controls only federal land and buildings in the city, would use to evict people from Washington.
Trump, in another post, said he will address a press conference on Monday to “stop violent crime in Washington, DC”.
Now you know the set up for the week. Trump will get the country used to the idea of martial law and then on Friday he goes to Alaska to meet with war criminal Vladimir Putin and talk about divvying up Ukraine to give to Putin. That’s his plan, in any event. We have seen how the plans of mice and Trump oft go astray. That said, I do feel confident in predicting an explosive week. Trump is not a well man and he’s made it clear that he intends to test some boundaries in the next few days and see what he can get away with.

Your assertion that crime is down in D.C. by 25% is misleading, at best. It has been horrendously high for a long time, especially the last five years.
Washington D.C. has a notably high crime rate compared to many states in the U.S. As of 2024, the homicide rate in Washington D.C. was 27.3 per 100,000 residents, making it one of the highest in the nation. If D.C. were a state, it would have the highest homicide rate in the country, significantly surpassing states like New York and California.
It’s not appropriate to compare DC with whole *states* – only with city areas. That’ll be why you got downvotes. I appreciate *objective* reality checks, but this was a disingenuous one!
How does it compare with NYC or LA?
It has the fourth highest murder rate of any city in the country. In the nation’s capital. It’s disgusting.
