This in and of itself doesn’t bode well for Trumpty Dumpty saving himself from what may be his biggest fall of all. This may be the one that *finishes* him and we define that word as meaning publicly humiliates him and reveals him for the non-billionaire that he is. Tomorrow could be the unveiling of the man behind the curtain, the wizard, who is not so powerful after all and who certainly is not a billionaire. That is assuming that he can’t get his $454M bond met.

We posted a piece here earlier today, wherein Eric Trump carried on passionately on Fox News about how this bond was “impossible” and “unprecedented” and then a few hours later Fox News ran a story which told of many other bonds that were not only as big as the one Trump’s trying to obtain but much larger. Intriguing that they would do this. These lawsuits that you will now see referenced were cited in Letitia James’ reply papers and so it’s not like Eric didn’t have a chance to know about this.

Those are giant companies that are named on the screen. Sony, Apple, Samsung, Carnegie Mellon, these are not lightweight companies and the lawsuits involved were not lightweight suits. They involved patent ownership, things of this nature.

So now you’re wondering, “Why did Fox News do this? This makes Trump look so bad now.” My theory is that Rupert Murdoch, of all people, regrets the monster that he helped create. You well remember that briefly he tagged Ron DeSantis as the new golden boy of the GOP. “DeFuture” appeared in a headline at the New York Post after DeSantis won reelection as Florida’s governor. Unfortunately, it didn’t take DeSantis long to tank publicly. The man has zero charisma and his campaign has now entered the textbooks of political science and political strategy as a cautionary tale. To the rest of us it was high comedy.

Point being, Murdoch wanted to move beyond Trump. He saw with clarity that moving beyond Trump was the move to make. Unfortunately, DeSantis was not it and there simply is nobody else. The GOP has reached a point where there is no talent on their bench only third string players and no stars.

So the reality TV actor is up for yet a third grab at the brass ring. Murdoch would love nothing more than for Trump to win but he doesn’t think Trump can, is my assessment. Ergo, he doesn’t want to get Fox News too tied to Trump.

Murdoch was around way before Trump and Fox News will be around when Trump is long gone. Murdoch is hedging his bets. If he was 100% on the Trump train, he would not have run a story which showed that real billion dollar companies had no problems posting billion dollar bonds and legitimate batters in that league could easily post a one half billion dollar bond — especially since Trump bragged about having that in cash just a few days prior. (Which may subject him to a perjury charge.)

So it looks like Fox News is going to play both ends against the middle, at least for a while. Eric Trump, Lara, all of them will be allowed air time to plead their case but expect to see more grounded-in-reality stories accompanying those pieces, like you saw today.

I truly believe that Rupert Murdoch thinks that Trump will lose the 2024 election and he’s banking on the GOP somehow picking up the pieces and reinventing itself. Fox News will be there for that process and for whomever stumbles out of the pack and assumes a leadership role.

Who knows? Maybe the likes of Newt Gingrich or Mitt Romney can advise on a new party, a post-Trump GOP? We won’t know until we get there and see who the survivors are, like in the sequel to any disaster movie.

I also predict that as much as Trump carries on about mail-in voting that hosts on Fox News will be encouraging that very thing. Kellyanne Conway was preaching that gospel on Fox News right after the 2022 election. I fully anticipate seeing more of that.

Trump will self immolate and take the party down with him, that’s a virtual certainty. Right now he’s been off the campaign trail for eight days but he has plenty of time to play golf, and party. His priorities are clear.

I think it should be “large and talented golfing membership” as opposed to “large and golfing talented membership” but what do I know? I wonder if transposing words is part of phonemic paraphasia? Anybody know?

  1. See, the reason those other companies gt those $1B+ bonds was because, wait for it, they actually had/were worth billions of dollars. I expect the only $500 million trump has access to is the bank account in his dreams. He might have assets which would provide that amount of surety/collateral if they weren’t already backing other loans. Not sure what he has left to sell really. Still, we’ll see I reckon-he’s got 10 days to come up with $175M (although why the bond amount was reduced puzzles me-they knew he was lying from the get-go f.f.s.). Let’s see how he does it–I’m sure we’ll get a play-by-play account when he whines about it on t.s.

    • My thoughts too. These were successful companies with many assets and CEOs who weren’t facing dozens of indictments .
