For reasons that nobody in MAGA even tries to explain, Trump believes that he can insult our allies and neighbors nonstop and nobody will oppose him. He seems to think that the entire world is MAGA. It emphatically is not. Canada in particular has had enough of Trump. And Musk. Ontario canceled a $100 million contract of Musk’s.
“Ontario has canceled its $100-million contract with Elon Musk-owned satellite internet company Starlink and will ban all United States (US)-based companies from taking part in provincial procurement as part of retaliatory measures in the North American trade war; Premier Doug Ford announced this morning,” BetaKit reported on Tuesday.
The contract was signed in November, 2024 and intended to bring high-speed internet to 15,000 eligible homes and businesses by June 2025, while the province was set to pay for the installation and equipment fees.
Keep in mind that on February 28, Reuters did a fact check on earlier claims that Ford had torn up the Starlink contract in reaction to Trump’s tariff threat, noting, “There is no evidence that Canada canceled all its ongoing contracts with Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite service, contrary to suggestions in social media posts,” noting that he postponed the cancellation hours after Trump agreed to a 30-day pause on tariffs.
But BetaKit reports that today, Ford followed through on those threats.
“Ford is following through on his threats from last month before a 30-day détente was struck between Canada and the US. Starlink, a subsidiary of Musk’s SpaceX.”
“It’s done, It’s gone,” Ford said, referencing the Starlink contract, in a press conference this morning. “We won’t award contracts to people who enable and encourage economic attacks on our province and our country.”
Ford said he doesn’t know yet how much this will cost them, but it’s part of a “larger procurement freeze by the province, which will no longer sign deals with US companies. The province spends an annual $30 billion on procurement, Ford said. He indicated this move could affect more American companies currently doing business with the province and that he has asked the provincial public service, as well as his ministers, to go through contracts ‘with a fine tooth comb.’”
Ford seems intent on making sure Trump knows his treatment of Canada won’t be tolerated without a fight, including saying he will be notifying officials in New York State, Michigan, and Minnesota of a 25% surcharge on the electricity it exports and “implied the province will not hesitate to shut off the power entirely if Trump escalates tariffs further.”
And people may be sitting in the dark. That’s the tragedy of this. If anybody ends up in the dark, though, I hope it’s Michigan and not New York or Minnesota — although it was close in Michigan, 48.3 to 49.7. That is the tragedy of the world we find ourselves in, yes, the bum won. But it was no “landslide” and certainly no “mandate.” But he has the idea in his head that now that he’s back in office that he’s a king, a god, he can do whatever he likes. Not that he squeaked by, which is the reality.
Trump and Musk are going to fall on their asses. The only question is: how hard will Americans fall? Because while we may be in this mess due to only 12 votes per precinct, in it we are. And it’s going to be tough.

I’m not sure why Canadians like bourbon so much, but that source of revenue for the red states that make it is going to instantly dry up. And according to a surprising statistic I recently learned, Canada is the single largest consumer of the stuff in the world. So, it’s gonna leave a mark.
I guess Manitobans will have to find their southern comfort by going down to one of the endless Mexican fentanyl garidos that line Portage and shooting up.
