Dear Lord, you’d think that the GOP would have gotten the memo by now. After three straight losing election cycles 2018, 2020, and 2022, the midterms were a disaster for the GOP, they’d realize that there’s nothing else to do but to kick your lazy college buddy off of the sofa and out, before the wife does it to you.
The lazy college buddy is of course Traitor Tot. The longer he stays, the worse it gets for the GOP. Hell, now even GOP super donors are plotting against His Lowness in 2024. And with that firmly lodged in Squeaker Cavein McCarthy’s memory bank, what does he do? He invites Trump’s Mini-Me, George Santos to come on in and bunk on his recliner.
Ever since Tuesday night President Biden has been having a good old fashioned Chuck E. Cheese good time playing whack-a-mole with the GOP Senate over their shifting sands stance on abolishing Medicare and Social Security. But what’s the Democratic House, chopped liver? Today they decided to join in the fun, and whack McCarthy over the head with his misfit toy, George Santos.
According to new reporting in The Hill, House Democrats led by Representatives Robert Garcia and Danny Goldman, they filed a resolution on the House floor to initiate the official procedure to throw Santos out of the House. Current smart money says there will never be a floor vote in the GOP controlled House, which I’m not so sure about, and explain in a moment, but it really doesn’t matter. The damage is done.
See, even if McCarthy tries to bury the resolution in the Rules Committee, it doesn’t help. Because what McCarthy can’t do is to stop the Democrats from hammering the damn thing home every time they take to their feet in the well of the chamber. And every time they do, it’s going to force GOP House leaders like McCarthy, Scalese, and Stefonik to take to the microphone and defend their dimwitted puppy. All of which keeps Santos front and center for a whole lot of people McCarthy really doesn’t want to have listen to this shit.
And the Democrats actually have a belligerent ally in their quest. George Santos. You can’t shut this ass clown up with a gallon can of Spackle. It was reported that in their closed door pow-wow McCarthy told Santos to sit at his desk or in his office, maintain a low profile, and STFU! But when GOP elder statesman Senator Mitt Romney took Santos behind the woodshed at the SOTU, Santos couldn’t wait to find a camera the next day to spew out a Nyah-Nyah-Nyah tantrum against Romney. Take my word for it, every damn time the democrats cuff Santos around in the House, he’ll rush to a microphone with a Harvard debate team response like I’m made out of rubber, you’re made out of glue, everything you say bounces off of me and sticks to you! How long can McCarthy stand this shit?
But here’s why I’m not so sure that McCarthy can get off the easy way. It has already been reported in the NYT as well as the WAPO that McCarthy is getting a bucket of shit dumped over his head by Santos’s three freshman GOP district neighbors. Santos is killing them in their home districts, And they’ll be damned if they let that sleazy little toad cost them their seats. He’s also getting severe blowback from other swing districts that hate this carnival sideshow.
If the Democrats offer a little quiet sympathy and condolences for their dilemmas, and offer a bipartisan way out, it would only take six converts for the Democrats to put a discharge petition on the floor to force a vote. And if that ever even starts to look possible, it only takes one Freedom Caucus member to decide that they don’t need McCarthy anymore, since they have the power they wanted, and call for a vote of no confidence, bringing about another almost endless shitshow.
For a political party that’s now stuck with divided government, and struggling with low presidential popularity ratings, the Democrats sure seem to be having a helluva lot of fun. The House Democrats gleefully sat around the House chamber, voting united and munching popcorn while the GOP mosh pitted their way through 15 endless rounds to elect a Speaker. The one they swore they’d never elect. On Tuesday, Biden taunted and rope-a-doped the GOP into taking Social Security and Medicare off of the table in upcoming negotiations. And now the House Democrats are poised to turn the GOP House into The George Santos Channel! Who says that being in the minority in the House always sucks? Just et the GOP run it, and get ready to ROFLMAO.
I can’t wait to see who he is going to be next.
Santos is low-hanging fruit for Democrats. But what the hell, they should avail themselves of knocking it off the tree and throwing it at McCarthy’s head for fun on a regular basis. What I find even better is that two, count em TWO GOP wet-dream committees kicked off this week. The GOP, so used to beating their chests and shouting, flinging rhetorical bullshit at Democrats like they used to are over. This is a new breed of Democrats and they have come out swinging! Wouldn’t it be fun to be in the GOP conference room behind the scenes as they trade “What the hell is happening? Democrats aren’t sitting there and taking it! They are even hitting back! And worse, there are actual facts on their side instead of our made up bullshit!’ Nope. The days of repeated “Benghazi!” (it’s important to include the exclamation point) hearings where Democrats adhered to the old standards of Congressional discourse are over. Now? I think the past two days have sent a message to certain muck-rakers in the GOP. As in “You wanna throw punches? Then get ready to get punched back.”
Just like President Biden is now doing and will continue to do – kick ass and name names and call out (by name) GOP critters who run around touting projects Biden is celebrating at ground-breakings by noting Representatives and Senators that voted AGAINST those very projects! I’ve wanted to see this kind of fight from the Democratic Party writ large for decades. Looks like it’s finally going to be how things are moving forward.
Finally, Republicans have been given more than enough rope to hang themselves. I look forward to watching it happen.
