Seriously.   Look at the picture and his middle finger — at least subconsciously Barr knows he’s a fuckhead.   If William Barr was just another RWNJ Federalist Society hack on Faux Nooz I wouldn’t be so worked up today, but this swamp creature has been elevated to the position of Attorney General of these not so United (thanks to Trump) States.    Since yesterday when I learned he was UN-recusing himself from the Epstein case I’ve been running through all the incredible damage he’s done already.   It’s like he’s looked over at Mitch McConnell’s destruction of the legislative process and decided he wants to be even more destructive to institutional norms.   Sort of a “Hey Mitch – I’ll see your destroying the Senate with destroying the DOJ and raise you using the DOJ to destroy the Rule of Law and the entire Executive Branch!”  Unlike Trump, Barr (like McConnell) actually knows stuff and how to really wreck things.    It’s like the difference between some asshole with a bag of explosives who just puts them in the lobby of a massive building hoping to destroy it and a skilled demolition engineer who knows how and where to place the charges to make the building implode like we see sometimes on TV.    The crazy guy will do lots of damage to be sure, but the guy with the skills can bring a massive building down on itself — and not kill himself in the process.

Barr’s un-recusal and now his attempts to coach Mueller not to testify and ordering two members of Mueller’s team not to testify next week would, if I had any hair cause it to be on fire.

Something else has been rattling around in my brain housing group though.   Being a fan of Rachel Maddow I keep thinking back to a show where she talked about a couple of instances where the House was moving towards a contempt citation and Barr at least semi-capitulating.   I say “semi” because he promised a lot more than he delivered but he suckered our folks into backing off for the moment.   Yes, I believe suckered our side is accurate.    Back to Maddow however she, in her unique repetitive style noted how much Barr really, really REALLY doesn’t want to be formally held in Contempt of Congress.   If memory serves (lawyers can weigh in on this) if nothing else a Contempt citation (or two, or three — I say keep em coming!) it might bolster Congress’ case in various court proceedings and put Barr & the DOJ on the defensive legally.

Maybe it’s a bit personal too.   For damned sure Barr doesn’t want to join John Mitchell on the dubious list of U.S. Attorney’s General who have gone to prison (Mitchell was no longer AG by then and Barr would have to be prosecuted by the next administration) but it’s possible he cares a tiny bit about his obituary.    Just as Trump fears an obit that will start with having been impeached even if like Clinton he’s not convicted in the Senate, Barr might fear an obit starting with the fact that he was held in Contempt of Congress.   But mainly I think it’s the legal weight being formally cited for Contempt would do to his efforts to subvert the DOJ.

Basically, Barr has squealed “Uncle” before when it was about to happen.   Then once free he’s turned around and done even worse stuff.   So I say screw him.    Hold him in Contempt.   Now.   Today, or before the end of the week if it takes a couple of days to follow the procedure.   I’ve already called my Congressman’s office up in DC before writing this to say he should get out on the House floor this afternoon and call for Barr to immediately be held in Contempt.   I also explained why and noted how Barr weaseled out of a vote being held in the recent past.    I also said we shouldn’t let him off the hook again.

Barr deserves to be held in Contempt by a formal vote of the House.  And more than once.

Barr deserves to be impeached even if the Senate won’t convict him.

Barr deserves to be tried and convicted someday for Obstruction of Justice.

In the meantime given all the ethical (not to mention legal) standards he’s violated I hope like hell there are prominent attorney’s out there who have filed formal grievances in every jurisdiction where Barr is licensed to practice law.    I hear attorneys are loathe to discipline their own.   But this is our country we are talking about.

Maybe I’m just dashing off a delusional rant here.   But if like me you are tired of Barr getting away with stern reprimands and think he needs to be hit where we know it hurts him I hope like me you will call up your own representatives (and other people’s too now that I think about it) and demanding the House at least does it’s job and issues a formal Contempt of Congress citation.   NOW.

  1. Bu, but if they go after Barr too strongly, how will they convince those wavering Republican voters to come across in a true bipartisan manner?

  2. Certainly if anyone has shown contempt of Congress it’s Barr (after Trump). But I have to be careful here because I don’t hold the timid losers very high myself.
