We all know the saying “A picture is worth a thousand words.” And it’s true some pictures are epic, even if only to us personally. There’s one of me and my parents taken my senior year in high school that exists now only in my mind. My oldest sister refused to send my belongings to me (long story about why and the timing) and went to considerable effort to ensure a couple of copies were destroyed before I could get my hands on one. Some of us have dreamed of a picture of us in some epic moment, having achieved a hard-won goal. Maybe getting an award, a photo of us sharing hugs and celebrating with friends. You know what I’m talking about.
We know for damned sure what Kevin McCarthy’s dream picture is – him standing at the rostrum holding the Speaker’s Gavel.
It’s been his dream for years. He never authored a single piece of legislation and pushed it through. He never served as a Committee Chair to learn the grunt work of getting things done. Nope. He’s spent his entire ten or so years in the House doing one thing and one thing only – pursuing power. And one day holding that Speaker’s Gavel. If you want to define “Covet” in the darkest possible way with an example look no further than Kevin McCarthy.
It’s ten pm on the east coast and the House is convening. The 14th vote is going to start, and McCarthy may or may not win. He’s close. He’s engaged in wheeling and dealing that is as dangerous to the Institution he wants to lead (and our country) as it is sleazy & despicable. There are all manner of details out now about what he’s given up to get his grubby hands on the gavel. To get his picture of him holding it. He’s literally traded away the power wielding that Gavel is supposed to have and handing it to the craziest of the cray.
Those familiar with me know I was once a jarhead, a grunt and while I often try to contain myself so that what I write might get seen on other forums tonight I can’t help myself. My inner grunt won’t be silent. So I have some questions about just what McCarthy has done, just how much he’s debased himself like a crack addicted back-alley hustler looking for a fix.
How many handjobs has he given out? How many blowjobs? How many cornholings? And who knows what other things he’s done. If there is a heaven and hell ole Satan is licking his chops over what he’ll have in store for McCarthy.
I know how ugly is is to use a certain word, to call someone a whore. But that’s exactly what Kevin McCarthy has done. He’s not just whored himself out to Trump (like so many others) but to a number of members of his own Caucus who have no business being in any elected office, much less in Congress. At this point if Gaetz, or Bobblehead or others insisted he walk into the Well of the House, drop trou and sit on a giant butt-plug he’d do it!
Well, the nominating speeches are underway. Word is he’s collected a couple more votes bringing him within two, and a handful of Republicans voting “Present” will do the trick. It remains to be seen if by midnight we have a Speaker McCarthy and he can stand there and pose for his meaningless (when it comes to running the House) photo.
It is so vile, so disgusting what this sorry excuse of a human being has done for a damned photo op!
I fear he will get his coveted picture. Those who humiliated him over and over for him to get it will put it up on their walls and throw darts at it. And have contests to see which staffer can come up with the most insulting memes to tweet out!
If that was all there was to it I wouldn’t care. But what he’s given up will cripple this country’s ability to take care of the people’s business.
Our ONE hope is that when this Speaker’s battle is over talk of “moderate” Republicans rejecting the deal package McCarthy has negotiated is more than talk. That a substantial number of them will say NO. Democrats of course will again vote with one voice against it. But who knows?
Well, the roll call has started. I have a sick feeling inside.
I would never count on Republicans to do anything different than what they have done.
I’m afraid our country has become the laughing stock of the world . We look like a bunch of idiots, we’re losing respect .
