What If MTG Moves To Oust Speaker Johnson, and LOSES?

What if a certain Congress Critter from Georgia throws a “bigly” “Let’s fire the Speaker” Party”, pulls out all the stops with an open bar and lot’s of expensive catered goodies and invites RWNJ media to televise the whole shindig – and only a handful of her pals show up? Think about that. I’m serious. Because MTG has been threatening to take away Speaker Johnson’s gavel, just like Matt Gaetz did to former Speaker McCarthy.

Ever since the vast majority of the GOP caucus has regretted dumping McCarthy. There was the weeks long sh*tshow of trying to get a new Speaker which is why we have Johnson in the first place. And as badly dysfunctional as the House was, it got worse!  The one thing that they seem to have gotten sort of okay was getting the government funded and that’s why MTG (and some others) now want Johnson gone!

There was also the fiasco with the House, at the demand of Trump and the MTG types tanking the immigration bill. I for one think that McCarthy, seeing how much trouble the GOP was in over abortion would have managed to get the Senate Bill to the floor. Immigration would have been dealt with and so would military aid to ALLIES in need of it. And McCarthy could have raised a lot, a LOT of money for vulnerable GOPers to give them and the GOP a fighting chance in November. So again, you have most and by most I do mean most of House Republicans looking back on the self-inflicted wound of ousting McCarthy and have no appetite for another go round. I’m sure they think of it several times (at least) a day and every time replay a moment from a classic Talking Heads Tune:

Again, I don’t think they want to ad the word “again” to that! Hakeem Jeffries is taking all this in, and he can throw a lifeline to Johnson. For a few months at least and that will be enough time to get some very much needed things done. There will be plenty of time for Democrats to hammer their GOP counterparts well before the election. And yes, even if GOPers were to back down on immigration if they see a weakened Trump coming out of his NY trial. Should that happen you just know they’ll still try to hedge their bets with Trump and that will be all the room Democrats need on the issue.

Now consider the fact that it’s not just Republicans in swing districts but even in solid red ones that are just plain f**king tired of all the antics. The performance jackassery. Some stalwarts have said screw it and quit. Plenty of others are still there but almost as fed up with MTG and others. Marjie seems to have become the Ted Cruz of the House, even overtaking Gaetz. I’ve heard talk today about her being the most powerful member of the House. SHE sure as hell seems to think so and she’s basking in it. Think back centuries and Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory bathing in the blood of virgins.

Ok, maybe that’s a bit over the top but MTG is having herself a grand old time walking around showing off her proverbial necklace of Mike Johnson’s “family jewels.” But getting back to where I started what if she’s wrong? What if she doesn’t have the kind of power she thinks she has? What if Speaker Johnson has in fact chosen to call her bluff as seems to be the case? He’s made it clear he’s going to as he puts it do his job and while MTG had her day of fun strutting over to the Senate as an “Impeachment Manager” that’s going to amount to a fart in a whirlwind. If the Senate even holds a trial it will last less than a day and she’ll have little time to howl at the moon.

In the meantime she can make her Motion To Vacate the Chair a privileged one anytime she wants. With Thomas Massie coming out publicly saying he too thinks it’s time to dump Johnson who knows? Marjie Kooky Pants just might decide it’s time. Hell, she might even be envisioning herself as Speaker? (take a moment to go puke)  Back? Well, consider this. As I’ve said most of the House Republicans haven’t been happy with the outsized power the Free-Dumb caucus has wielding from the beginning of this Congress. They see a handful of their ranks, asshats each and every one making them ALL look bad.

Suppose they decide it’s time to defang MTG and the gang that can’t shoot straight? It’s not as crazy as it sounds. Stick with me here while we consider the past few days.  Johnson goes down to Florida for a sit down with his Mango Messiah. Trump is stupid but he’s still got some savvy and knows he’s stepped in it with abortion. He was also way, WAY too public in getting Republicans to tank the immigration deal. I hate to say it but even though most people will lose and huge with Truth Social HE will still walk away at some point with a nice haul. But it’s failing PUBLICLY and by this summer might well be a laughingstock. NOT the kind of thing he needs to maintain his image with MAGA. Especially for those who kicked in thousands to buy stock and lose it all.

Trump might have decided it’s time for a little normalcy. He won’t admit it but he knows the gradual shift in polling towards Biden and away from him is real. And that it’s going to get worse for him if things don’t change. He might figure come post convention he can whip up the MAGAs to fever pitch (he probably can) if thinks haven’t gotten TOO out of control. No, he doesn’t want Biden to succeed either with Israel or Ukraine policy but either country failing will be put at HIS feet and not Biden’s. What I’m saying is that Trump might have grudgingly come to the conclusion he has to allow Biden to keep it all from going to hell. HE (Trump) can do what he wants but he has to get elected first.

I know that’s a lot to take in, but I’m thinking that’s where things are with Trump at the moment. And when he met with Johnson the marching orders were to go ahead and put this stuff up for a vote. Don’t go threatening anyone who votes for any of those bills. If nothing else come next January we’ll have a list of which Republicans can be counted on and which ones to “deal with.” See what I’m driving at? That means Trump has given Johnson tacit approval to get some things done. And provide cover if MTG (and others) try to take away the Gavel.

Just to add in one more factor add in this: Trump insists on being the center of things. Of being the ONLY person who’s opinion matters. MTG has been hogging the spotlight and Trump isn’t one to share anything, much less the spotlight. At least for any length of time. Hearing comments about MTG now being the most powerful Republican in DC is just the kind of thing to freak Trump the hell out. And, more importantly decide to cut her off at the knees!

What if Margerine decides to make her motion privileged? And Trump pretty much stays silent, or worse actually says this might not be the best time for the House to be doing such a thing as kicking out another Speaker, that maybe it’s best to just wait until after the first of the year to address the issue of whether Johnson should lead the House? Margie might wind up lucky to get even ten fellow GOPers to vote to oust Johnson without Trump flat out saying he has to go.

Hence that big old party Marjie has planned. The kind where the spoiled rich kid who abuses all their grade school friends finds themselves in the back yard filled with goodies, entertainment, bounce castles and other games and no guests.  Best of all, for the Republican’s who’ve gritted their teeth and stuck it out, the hold the Free-Dumb caucus has had will be broken. The are getting virtually nothing of what they want. By working across the aisle with Democrats they still won’t get much but it will be more than nothing.

And hope you’ll think about it.  We could all use some hope, and I really am allowing myself the hope that MTG got out too far over her skies and will crash like that ski jumper in the opening of the old ABC weekly program Wide World of Sports.
