It’s a blessing that John McCain isn’t here to see this. He would be appalled. But then again, if McCain were here, he would probably have kept Lindsey Graham from going off the ledge like he has done and become a true Trump sychophant. Graham was the prophet back in the day. He said in 2015, in a tweet which is still visible in his Twitter account, “If we nominate Trump he will destroy us. And we will deserve it.” I’ve often thought that the fact that that tweet is still live is the last vestige of Graham’s true character, making a passive aggressive stance. Meanwhille, this is the public Graham.
Lindsey Graham: “I feel good about the Republican Party and where we're going as a nation. We're killing all the right people and we're cutting your taxes. Trump is my favorite president. We've run out of bombs. We didn't run out of bombs in WWII”

Trump is my favorite president. Did those words really come out of Graham’s mouth? Oh yes, they did. That’s who the GOP is these days. This is who they’re proud to be, a white nationalist cult, composed of the lunatic fringes of the old GOP and helmed by a television game show host.
This is not Eisenhower’s party. It’s not even Nixon’s party. Nor Reagan’s. In point of fact, and I wonder if this has occurred to Graham, it’s not even John McCain’s party. There is no place in the Republican party these days for the likes of Lindsey’s best friend in the world, his mentor, John McCain.
Trump hated McCain and the feeling was mutual. And what Trump hated the most was the respect, when McCain died, pouring from both sides of the aisle. Trump will never have that. At some point in the foreseeable future, Donald Trump will also shuffle off this mortal coil and depart this vale of tears. And there will be some kind of a public funeral for him as there have been for other presidents, I have no doubt.
But guaranteed, it will not be the same as what we’ve seen in recent years for the likes of George H.W. Bush or jimmy Carter. Or John McCain. The first two men named were one-term presidents, which in a merciful world Trump would have also been. But we seem stuck in this endless Twilight Zone episode where things only get worse. I guess that America has decided that she can only learn lessons the hard way and so here we are, out for a second and much worse bashing than before.
And Lindsey Graham has decided to sell his soul to all of this. He’s afraid of Trump. They’re all afraid of Trump. Graham once characterized Trump as a combination of the racist Jesse Helms, Ronald Reagan, and P.T. Barnum. Helms is an apt comparison. Reagan would be insulted and rightfully so. And say what you will about circusman Barnum. He knew he was a circusman and did not attempt to become a king, other than king of the circus.
Maybe Barnum had also heard the Turkish expression: “When you send a clown to the palace, he doesn’t become a king. The palace becomes a circus.”
Lindsey, Lindsey, what happened to you?

Li’ Lindsey Lickspittle sells his soul (cheaply) and for what? Trump despises him. And Lindsey knows it. You have to wonder what Lindsey thinks when he looks in the mirror each morning, or when he awakens during the nightmares he surely has.
I have to wonder what Eisenhower would have done if trump walked into his office and started screaming threats. Quite honesty, I don’t think he would have made it out alive.
