Twenty Republican Congressman and women, whose politics range from conservative-as-hell but not full blown nuts to QAnon barking at the moon cray, defied ex-Resident Donald Trump and voted “anybody else” in the Speaker vote yesterday. This after the Orange one had made it perfectly clear almost two weeks ago that Jordan was his chosen one with the following statement:
“Former President Donald Trump is backing Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, the pugnacious House Judiciary Committee chairman and longtime Trump defender, to succeed Kevin McCarthy as House speaker.
“”Congressman Jim Jordan has been a STAR long before making his very successful journey to Washington, D.C., representing Ohio’s 4th Congressional District,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social site early Friday. “He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete & Total Endorsement!””
And, I would imagine each one of the twenty had their own reasons for not voting for the “STAR” ranging from – “it is not good for a Long Island conservative Republican trying to pass himself off as a moderate to vote for a nutcase from Ohio that wants a National Ban on abortion” – for the three from New York to – “I just hate Jim Gordon’s guts” – for the true conservatives voting against him.
Whatever their differing reasons they all threw the Orangeutan’s endorsement of Gym back in his ugly face and so far… we’ve heard not a peep from him in protest.
I know he is busy venting his spleen on Judge Chutkan and Jack Smith, but doesn’t it defy logic that he would not take this open rebellion against him in the House as a personal affront and rage about it on Truth Social? Even though there have been other signs that his troops don’t snap to at the crack of his whip like they used to – as when he got only exactly one vote nominating HIM for the Speakership – one would think that their failure to vote for the congress critter who did more for him than any other sparking the Jan. 6th insurrection, and who would probably most enthusiastically back his effort to pilfer the Presidency in 2024, would make him explode in a paroxysm of rage and atrocious grammar… unless…
Look, we all know that drumpf hates more than anything backing the wrong horse, making an endorsement that does not pan out. Someone in the House that he likes and respects, like that turd Steve Scalise, has probably called him up and explained slowly, in one syllable words why Jordan will never be the Speaker.
In which case, if Trump understands and believes him, he would rather eat dirt followed with with a bleach chaser than call attention to the indignity of his ignored endorsement.
Looks like, as far as Trump is concerned, Jordan will here forth be known as “Jim who? I may have met him once.”
But cheer-up Gym. There are far worse fates than being ghosted by that dirtbag.
I was thinking along the same lines earlier but got sidetracked with some personal stuff. You put it more clearly than I would have. In a couple of articles lately I’ve mentioned that since that initial endorsement of Trump’s it’s been crickets from him when it comes to Jordan. You nailed it – Trump is afraid of backing another loser. I still think Trump learned about the results of that first, secret Scalise vs. Jordan Ballot in conference and he’s been shaken up by it ever since. Jordan doesn’t want to admit he’s not the darling of House Republicans. Never has been. He was useful as a bomb thrower but when he got some actual power as head of Judiciary (and he’s not even a lawyer!) the repeated face flops of his hearings have had fellow House GOPers openly grumbling. Some on the record! But he’s not taking the hint the DEAFENING silence from Trump has provided. How much self-inflicted ritual humiliation will he put himself through? Who knows?
