It has always been a wonder to me that Donald Trump is considered to be the friend of the working man. Trump has zero respect for the working man and even less for the working woman. These are “losers” “suckers” nobodies. And you can triple that level of trivialization if the person in question happens to serve in the military. Public service to the community or to the nation is nothing that Trump respects.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that he and his sidekick, Rudy Giuliani, decided to demonize two election workers in Georgia. They were only too happy to ruin the lives of these two women, a mother and a daughter, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss. We heard today from Ms. Freeman, who described herself as a small business owner who had a good life, an honorable life by any normal yardstick, until she was suddenly thrust into a bizarre spotlight by none other than the then-sitting president of the United States. Watch and weep.

This is pure fiction, lies made up out of whole cloth, for the purpose of Trump and Giuliani pursuing their fantasy that Trump actually own the election. If a few heads had to roll, fine. No problem there. Neither Trump or Giuliani have any kind of a conscience and it never occurred to them that they were rendering normal life impossible for the blameless women they accused — normal life being, living in one’s home, going to the market, the post office, taking a stroll to get some exercise. These are things that the yous and mes take for granted as our rights and indeed they are our rights. But if Trump or one of his henchmen decides tomorrow that your name needs to be dragged into their latest conspiracy theory, then you, too, will be precluded from taking care of the necessaries of your life, or enjoying simple pleasures.

This is tragic. This is beyond the pale. But for Trump, it bounces right off. So what if a couple of women, black women no less, had their lives ruined? I would bet my bottom dollar that Trump never thinks about it and couldn’t care less.

And if something awful had befallen one of these women, if some crazy MAGA had maimed or murdered them, he wouldn’t care about that, either.

Trump is a dangerous sociopath. Judge a person by their actions. Watch what people do. Their actions will tell you far more about who they are than any statements of ideals. Trump has no problem pulling lies from thin air, doing a rectal extraction, if you will, and disparaging a blameless individual if it suits his purposes.

We live now in a world where he has allegedly “joked” about “being a dictator for one day,” har de har har. He’s not joking. He fully intends to become a dictator. He wants nothing more than to be in a position where he can tell one of his minions to take somebody out and shoot him or send somebody off to an internment camp. That is what we would be looking at in another Trump term.

If you doubt it for a moment, just replay the tape you saw. He found a target back in 2020 and opened fire on the target, utterly oblivious and uncaring as to the damage that he was doing. His MAGA disciples believed him and they proceeded to make this woman’s life, and her daughter’s life, hell.

The only “crime” that Ruby Freeman or her daughter, Shaye Moss, ever committed was showing up for work, which in this case was being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

This needs to be stopped. Trump needs to be stopped. And Rudy Giuliani as well. Here’s the closing summary of the first day of trial, as it appeared in The Guardian.

The first witness is now off the stand and jurors have been dismissed for the day. We’re now closing the blog but here is a recap of what happened today:

  • The federal trial to determine how much Rudy Giuliani will pay in damages began on Monday. Giuliani was found liable for defamation for false comments he made about two Georgia election workers after the 2020 election.

  • Eight jurors were seated in Giuliani’s defamation case. Jurors were asked several questions, including, “Do you believe that Joseph R Biden’s election as president of the United States in 2020 was illegitimate?” and “Have you ever used the phrase “Let’s Go Brandon” or the term or hashtag “WWG1WGA”?

  • Giuliani knowingly spread lies about two Atlanta election workers as “as a cornerstone of a call to action” to overturn the 2020 election, Von DuBose, a lawyer representing Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss said in his opening statement on Monday. He also said the case was about “names that have been disgraced”.

  • The plaintiffs have asked for damages between $15m and $43m. Giuliani’s attorney said awarding them this level of payout would be like the “death penalty” for his client. He added that “it will be the end of Mr Giuliani”.

  • Special counsel prosecutors asked the US supreme court on Monday to make an expedited decision on if Donald Trump can be criminally prosecuted on federal charges over his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.

  • Opening statements in Giuliani’s defamation case were heard today. The lawyer for the claimants argued that the case was ‘about names that have been disgraced’. Meanwhile, Giuliani’s lawyers argued that awarding tens of millions of dollars in damages for defamation would be a “death penalty” for the ex-Trump lawyer.

I hope the jury decides to throw the book at Giuliani. He’s had it coming for some time. And when that big judgment is on the books, Rudy, just remember: Everything Trump Touches Dies.

  1. Everyone is, of course, sending their thoughts and prayers for poor Mr Ghouliani who looks like being left merely rich.

I hope the jury awards more than Ruby or Shaye were asking for, lots more. After all these right-wingers love sentences that ‘send a message’.

    • Rudy needs to be institutionalized. Seriously – put somewhere where he cannot do any more harm. He seems to have completely lost his ability to function with any normalcy. On MSNBC just this evening, Rachel Maddow reported that after going thru the metal detector at a courthouse, he came into the room with his belt buckle (which he had to remove) unbuckled and dangling from his pants until someone pointed it out. And of course we all remember the hair dye incident and the Four Seasons. The guy is truly impaired and demented. If he weren’t such an evil person, one could almost feel sorry for him. But not quite. The other sad thing about all this is that regardless of the settlement, I would be surprised if these two women every saw more than a fraction of it. So much for “With Liberty and Justice For All”. What a crock.

      • Same shameful thing with the appalling Alex Jones: he declares bankruptcy to avoid paying his settlement to the Parkland shooting parents. Now he’s back on Twitter, thanks to the lunatic Musk. He’ll rake in money and none of it will go to those suffering families. Nauseatingly unjust.

      • I believe Ghouliani’s “pranks” are just performative BS, not even to front for an insanity defense. He’s just a weirdo, literally letting it all hang out. If they try an insanity defense, the prosecutors simply have to play what he says outside the courthouses – clear as a bell, zany content, but consistent. He’s no dummy. Noun, verb, 9-11 man. Dark Brandon got that right.

      • Rudy’s evident “impaired”, “demented”, and apparent “unable to function with any normalcy” conditions are possibly just KARMA…..
