Watch – Gavin Newsom Evokes Ronald Reagan to Spank Ron DeSantis

Ron DeSantis had to resort to the patented Marco Rubio water bottle maneuver tonight while Gavin Newsome, during their debate on Fox News, took the Gubernator to task for his jihad against members of our national community who happen to be gay, evoking Republican icon Ronald Reagan – who once responded to homophobia by saying “you can’t catch gay like you can measles.”

“Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) accused Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) of engaging in a “cultural purge” in his support of parental rights and books of sexual nature banned in Florida schools.

NEWSOM: 1,406 books have been banned in your banning binge in the state of Florida. As it relates to parental rights, come on. California, it is in our constitution, parental engagement. It’s called the LCLF process. We actually require parental engagement on curriculum development. And we don’t — complete lie — we don’t require K through third grade sexual education. That doesn’t happen until middle school.

What you’re doing is using education as a sword for your cultural purge. And you know what, with all due respect, you know, I remember in the 1970s, the 1970s, we had a bill called the Briggs Initiative (Proposition 6) and there was a guy by the name of Ronald Reagan, so offended by the Briggs Initiative which was the original “Don’t Say gay” bill. In that case, it was not allowing teachers who happen to be gay to teach. And Reagan had the courage to stand up and he said, you can’t catch gay like you can measles.

I don’t like the way you demean people. I don’t like the way you demean the LGBTQ community. I don’t like way you demean, you humiliate people you disagree with, Ron. I find this fundamentally offensive and this is a core value that distinguishes the values of my state and frankly the vast majority of Americans against the weaponization of education and the purging he has done.”

The The Briggs Initiative was a ballot proposition initiated by homophobe John Briggs in 1978 in California that sought to prohibit gays from teaching in Public schools.

Newsom’s take down of DeSantis was a thing of beauty:

Tonight should serve as a lesson for DeSantis to never debate someone who is better prepared, more knowledgeable on the issues, taller, better looking and not as huge of an A-hole as he is himself.
