Did the United States break a big mirror seven years ago? Anybody remember? Because we must have done something major to warrant the series of biblical plagues that Donald Trump and his family have collectively foisted upon our country.

Trump keeps on breaking the law and he keeps on getting away with it. And each time, we gather collectively in front of the TV sets, crouching there in the darkness, listening to newscasters as our cave dwelling ancestors must have crouched by the fire, listening to their shaman, and wondering if the demons of their own world would ever be vanquished.

Our hopes rise. Like Charlie Brown with the football, each time we think it’s going to be different. Each time our hopes are dashed. Watch this synopsis and remember. It’s.Been. Seven.Freaking.Years.

We are numb. Donald Trump has caused us all to grow layers of scar tissue over our nerve endings. We are not the same people we were seven years ago. Well do I remember how fresh the outrage was in 2015 and 2016. We were appalled at the things Trump said and did. Now we’re used to it.

Like a battered spouse, who is shocked the first time she’s hit, the hundredth or thousandth time just doesn’t seem that big of a deal anymore. It’s life as usual.

America has been in a toxic, co-dependent relationship with this man for seven years. Will it end? Or, will somebody else just pick up the Trump torch and be even worse? Ron DeSantis distinctly could be a lot worse than Trump. He’s smarter and not so reckless.

Will we ever get any closure? Will this bum ever have to pay for his crimes as you or I would absolutely have done if we had done 100th of what he has? Or will he just skate?

  1. The past few days all I read is how D.O.J. is going after former guy. Are they? I will not believe Garland is doing anything until that orange slug is in a courtroom hearing the charges levied against him. He should have been arrested way before this and he hasn’t and no, even presidents are not allowed to do whatever the fuck they want. The day a president IS allowed to thumb their nose at the law, and that day might be here given D.O.J.’s lack of action against former guy, is the day this entire nation breaks completely and irrevocably apart into the tiny pieces of total anarchy.

Garland needs to think about this and how D.O.J.’s lack of action would lead to the destruction of the nation.

    • Yeah…they are. The likes of Pompeo wouldn’t be making arrangements to talk right now if it were otherwise. It won’t be everything you want (thank all the gods for that, BTW; Oscar Wilde once pointed out they only do that when they want to punish you) but it’ll be a lot closer than any doomsayer would ever say.

    • There is no lack of action. It’s done quietly and thoroughly and NOT for our purvue. Garland was successful with the Oklahoma bombing and the unibomber. DOJ has a lot to deal with. Indicting a past potus must be done completely legally with NO FUCKING LOOPHOLES or mistakes that would let him get off, or have it appear political. It may be he can never run again but I do believe – he will be indicted for something. Prison time – no clue because I still believe his family will declare him demented, or some such, to keep that from happening.

I think we turn our anger to the DOJ because we want it done a long time ago. This is a big fucking deal and check out how long it took on Watergate!

  2. I’m sorry (not sorry) but eff Don Winslow. He’s a thin-skinned doomsday peddler whose big ideas would have blown the whole ballgame if anyone in power had actually listened to him. Anybody who screams that shit likely has no understanding or knows but wants to use the rubes for profit, which he does.

Hate our legal system and its shortcomings all you want…but never, EVER forget that our ideological opponents favor the alternative of arbitrary chaos and lynch mob justice. Are you willing to imply they were RIGHT about that?

    • The film is a compelling compilation of moments that I well remember. Each time, I thought, “This is it.” And each time I became Charlie Brown. I like this film a lot.

      • As a true believer in the Stockdale Paradox, I knew better. Comes from a decade of struggling through poverty and seeing the mirage of offramps crumble under my feet. I however recognize that most folks haven’t had that experience, which makes them prey for the likes of Winslow. At this point, he has nothing useful to add to this conversation. “Hurry up” as a prosecutorial strategy is how Bill Cosby got early release. You wanna do with that with Trump World, keep following his lead.

  3. Just curious why there is diaper don silver coins advertised in this story. It seems to be an odd choice for the advertiser and makes me want to vomit that people would actually buy that crap.

    • The way that ad algorithms work are truly mysterious. I’ve seen ads on different sites that I know the site owner doesn’t want there. It has to do with a person’s interests and the algorithms make strange choices sometimes. AI is an imperfect science at this point.
