Remember how the poet said, “Oh would someone the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.” Well, we have that opportunity right now. Take seven minutes of your time because it is well invested, to watch this summation of Wednesday’s insurrection at the capitol. This is how America looks to the rest of the world right now. People may have once envied America, now they pity us and who can blame them?

If you want to hear a podcast by this newscaster here’s a link. This story is being touted as one that “sends shockwaves through western democracies.” And we don’t feel so terrific ourselves.
These characters are straight out of dystopian sci fi movie, Mad Max comes to mind.
Thank God we voted Trump out. At least with Biden in office, America retains some credibility. If Trump had been reelected, we would have been toast. That is the sad, terrifying truth of the matter.
That last line, “America’s long journey as a stable Democracy appears to be in doubt” brought tears to my eyes. Sorry, I want to say more but just can’t right now.
It’s enough to make everybody choke. People believe this POS hustler Trump. That’s what has brought us to this point. I am beyond sad about it myself.
Madison square garden 1939?
Nothing is eternal and impervious to change, least of all a human construct like a state, government or democracy. Even within the US, in 1776, democracy and freedom were concepts reserved for a select few of its inhabitants
It is so terrible.
The American revolution looked lost. Washington’s ragtag army was trapped. Mired in mud. So confidant were the British commanders, they decided to wait til morning to wipe them out. Washington, being a gentry farmer, noticed the change of weather, & knew a freeze was coming. He set up fires to make the British think the army was still there. It froze. He moved his army. Turned the entire war. We rose up & escaped certain ruin, but there are battles to come. But the weather has changed.
What an excellent analogy.
