Power is an elusive quality. Power mainly exists because we choose to give somebody power. The minute we stop giving it, whether on a purely voluntary basis or by some tangible means, like a vote cast for the person, the person has no power.

Some people are actually able to rise above that and they retain power via the sheer force of their personality whether they’re currently in office, in a popular movie, whatever brings somebody to public attention. Nancy Mace is not one of those people whose personal power comes from within. She derives her power, and maybe her identity as well, from her office. Remove the office, she’s got nada.

Here is Nancy Mace basically telegraphing her desperation publicly. If you don’t feel like cringing right now, you may want to skip watching this particular clip.

She made a couple of tactical blunders: First, she blamed Donald Trump for January 6 and that’s a no no. If you’re running for office you have to be silent on the subject of January 6, and if you can’t do that, you need to join the “caa caa on the walls is legitimate political discourse” crowd.

Then she and Marjorie Taylor Greene got into a pissing contest. Also not wise. That’s certain to take you out of the winner’s circle of Trump endorsees.

Here is what Trump said about her. This is the Republican version of the kiss of death from the Donfather. The Hill:

Former President Trump endorsed GOP candidate Katie Arrington on Wednesday in her bid to unseat Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), who has blamed Trump for causing the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

Trump, in a statement via his Save America PAC, knocked Mace, calling her “an absolutely terrible candidate” who has been “disloyal” to the Republican Party. He also said the congresswoman’s “remarks and attitude have been devastating for her community, and not at all representative” of the GOP.

The former president said Arrington is liked, respected “and a true Republican,” writing that she is “strong on the Military, our great Vets, Law Enforcement, the Border, and will fight very hard for our under-siege Second Amendment and Lower Taxes.”

“Disloyal” to the Republican party means disloyal to Trump. He’s made that every clear. He went on record yesterday saying that Mitch McConnell doesn’t speak for the Republican party, I’m sure that was news to him.

I frankly don’t think Mace’s groveling is going to do her much good. Desperation doesn’t play out well. As any out of work actor, s/he’ll tell you. You can’t go up for any competitive part unless you’re projecting confidence and success. Mace just washed herself out of competition. The fact that she actually believes that MAGAs would listen to facts or reason is comical. Tragi-comical, actually.
