The GOP has never been a “big tent” party. They don’t want to be. Look at the current GOP stars, McConnell, McCarthy, Trump, DeSantis, Tucker, Matt Schlapp, and even Charlie Kirk. The fact that they’re all white straight “Christian” men is meaningful in and of itself with respect to who they are and what they want to protect. Traditional power. Moreover, Trump has demonstrated just how badly the Right-wing needs a “strongman leader daddy figure” with all power imbued into one person.

Trump and DeSantis aren’t one person, and that is causing big problems for Charlie Kirk’s multi-million dollar lifestyle made possible by his Turning Point USA franchise.  According to NBC News:

A close Trump adviser who spoke with the former president just last week about the mattersaid that Trump has “been watching” Kirk’s relationship with DeSantis since Turning Point hosted rallies across the country last summer for high-profile GOP candidates with the Florida governor as the headliner.

That party ain’t big enough for two men!

More recently, Trump noticed Kirk starting to ally himself with DeSantis in his effort to shake up the Republican National Committee, according to the adviser, who was not authorized to speak publicly. Kirk was vocal in wanting to oust the incumbent chairwoman, Ronna McDaniel, who was originally handpicked by Trump for the job.

Here we have a classic dilemma. Kirk knows that DeSantis would be infinitely better long term. But without DeSantis having even announced, all the insane money is on the Trump side. Oh, and – please believe me on this, it is all about the money to Kirk. Of course, you knew that already. To the other two, DeSantis and Trump? Well, to Trump, it’s about money and power. To DeSantis, it’s about power and money.

And so now the sin qua non that you all know is coming:

“Trump feels like he has made Charlie and Charlie’s ungrateful and [Trump’s] not been happy for a while,” the adviser said. “He’s like, ‘You call him and you tell him he’d be nothing without my son.’” “I see that [Kirk’s] trying to cover all his bases,” the adviser continued. “Trying to triangulate between Trump and DeSantis. And Ron may not care, but Trump notices.”

Silly goose, Kirk. You know damned well that you don’t “triangulate” with Trump. Everything with Trump is linear and vectored. Not toward you, by the way.

So it would seem that Kirk and TPUSA are at a crossroads. Kirk must decide whether he’s in for one last money haul with Trump and his donors or does Kirk play the long game, knowing that Trump is done, forego some income now and invest in the future with DeSantis. Take a hit and hope to “grow” into the future with DeSantis and the “America First” movement.

I’ll give Kirk some advice, and I’m going to bill him for it. (Kirk, I charge $250K per line, so pay attention). I would stick with Trump one last time, join him on the money grab, tie TPUSA to Trump’s campaign PACs, and load up on TPUSA events as a Trump campaign. And then, the moment Trump is indicted or decides not to run again, I’d set seven to eight figures of your wealth in a conservative mutual fund, buy a little place in Lahaina, and continue to do the podcast-radio show from your desk but never, ever, do anything that threatens that mutual fund that spits out great income from now until the end of time. That means no more events tying yourself to any candidate.

That will be $1.75 million, Kirk. Believe me, that advice is worth every penny. You want no part of this clown show post-Trump. I might have just saved you $10 million.

  1. I have no sympathy for Kirk, but he’s found himself with Trump holding one of his balls in one hand and DeSantis holding the other. And either one will squeeze their allotted testicle till it pops like a grape! Hell, Trump would take a special (and perverse) joy in it! DeSantis would be more grim and cruel, slowly increasing the pressure as extra punishment but either way Kirk is going to learn a painful, but well-deserved lesson. In a perfect world both Trump and DeSantis will apply their respective squeezes and thereby removed Kirk from the gene pool – which would at least qualify him for a Darwin Award. You don’t have to die to get one, just remove yourself from the gene pool/ability to reproduce in a spectacularly stupid way. And putting himself in the position he’s now in was spectacularly stupid.

  2. Calling Matt Schlapp straight might be off base since he was credibly accused of sexual harassment by a male member of the Hershal Walker campaign.
