I’ve been saying for some months that one dimension of this political campaign is that we’re watching a mentally ill man, who was no mental giant at the top of his game, having a nervous breakdown in public. That is what we’re watching, make no mistake. We are a television culture. We invented television. It’s a remarkable instrumentality, but like every other great invention, it has its downside. The automobile is a remarkable invention as well. We deal with many deaths and tragedies from auto accidents and with global warming as a result of that invention. The auto outdoes the horse in so many ways, but also creates problems that the horse never did.

The phenomenon which is Donald Trump is a creation of television. Mark Burnett, the producer of The Apprentice, decided to use Trump in his creation of a remarkable fictional being, the self-made billionaire, the kingmaker, the decider of the fates and fortunes of many. Nobody bought the fiction more than Trump himself. And nobody was farther from being a king or a kingmaker than Trump himself. His money is inherited. He’d be worth $12 billion today if he had just put his inheritance in a low risk mutual fund, rather than squander it. But he did squander it, Letitia James is on the verge of dealing him a deadly financial blow, and he’s hoping that he can get back into the Oval Office to destroy his enemies. Here is another sample of him melting down mentally in Iowa today.

I remember when Miles Taylor first authored Anonymous and the image that he spoke of was of an elderly relative running around the nursing home with his pants off. Taylor said that was the vibe in the White House in the Trump era, that the man was out of control and nobody knew what to tell him or who to talk to about it.

And I’m quite sure that books like Anonymous and all the others that were written only scratched the tip of the iceberg.

Iowa was the scene of some wild things today. More clips to come. The simple truth is this: Trump is being progressively boxed in by his legal problems. He is going to face, for the first time in his life, a situation where he can’t simply buy somebody off at the end of the day. He was able to settle Trump University for $25 million. He’s been able to settle other problems for various sums of money. He can’t buy his way out of a criminal action brought by either the United States or the State of Georgia.

His only hope is to get back into power and then destroy his enemies. That is not proving to be an easy accomplishment. Every single time the man opens his mouth in public these days he inserts his foot. He has always been his own worst enemy, but never so much in the year 2024.

So stay tuned. It’s going to get crazy beyond anybody’s wildest dreams. I have absolutely no qualms about making that prediction. The reason is, that no matter how nuts it gets in Trump world, there is always a lower bottom. We ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
