Mary Trump released more audio of her conversations with her aunt, Maryanne Trump Barry, Donald Trump’s sister. In this clip, Maryanne Barry calls Eric a “moron” and says, with respect to Ivanka, “she’s a mini-Donald” and “it’s all about her.” Since this is the second clip Mary Trump has released I’m thinking — and hoping — that there will be more.

I love the comment about how she couldn’t blame Samantha Bee for what she said. If you’ve forgotten that, Bee called Ivanka a “feckless c*nt.”

This has not been an amazing convention for the Trump children. Donnie started off the week all red-eyed and begging daddy for a hug. He was followed by his girlfriend’s terrifying, much-memed Eva Peron act, where she asserted her immigrant status, seeming to forget that Puerto Rico is actually part of the United States.
Night 2 featured the forgotten children, Eric and Tiffany, begging daddy to remember them too in the will, along with Tiffany’s imperishable “connecting” with her cash-strapped fellow recent graduates. Night 3 included Eric’s wife using a made-up Abraham Lincoln quote: “Abraham Lincoln once famously said, ‘America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.’” The quote is widely used in Facebook memes but is not actually something he ever said.
The irony was lost on this woman that yes, we have destroyed ourselves to a great extent by electing a reality TV actor to playact in the White House, rather than run the government, which he is utterly incapable of doing. I’m with Lincoln on the concept, even if the phraseology is a compilation of ideas that he had expressed and not a direct quote.
But then the Trump family lessers were done and we got to “Princess” (Melania’s name for her, according to Stephanie Wolkoff) Ivanka. I love this synopsis of Ivanka’s speech.
She was excited to have her turn, quickly calling her billionaire gold toilet-using father “the people’s president.” I mean, I don’t know, who those people would be? President Xi? Vladimir Putin? There is a jubilant stupidity to the president’s daughter that makes Marie Antoinette look like Marie Curie. But hey, she’s charming! […]
She then led a “four more years” chant. Ivanka then mused about her father’s failed trade war and what a good idea it was. I mean, a lot of farmers in Iowa might disagree with the president’s trade wars being good for America, but Ivanka doesn’t really know any of those people. […]
She tried to humanize her father the sociopath by talking about how much he loves his grandchildren and avowing that he really does, even though he’s never ever expressed it, feel bad for all the people he’s killed inadvertently though his incompetence. I mean we just have to take her word for it, right? “I’ve been with my father and seen the pain in his eyes when he receives updates on the lives that have been stolen by this plague.”
“Donald Trump has changed Washington!” Ivanka proclaimed with zeal in front of the White House, a taxpayer-funded entity now used for her dad’s re-election campaign. Yes, Ivanka, we know your dad’s changed Washington. He’s also changed America and the world. But not for the better.
I have figured out the sole advantage of having the Trumps around. They are the physical embodiment of that old saw about how the only reason to beat your head up against the wall is because it feels so good when you stop. When all is said and done, that will be their legacy, “and America was so indescribably grateful when they were gone and the torture of dealing with them finally stopped.”
Here’s the ACTUAL 1850 Lincoln quote Eric’s worse half mangled: “If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author. As a nation of free men, we shall live forever or die by suicide.”

Oh, how I long for the day when I don’t feel compelled to check various websites (including this one), Twitter, and MSNBC throughout the day just in case I’m missing the end of the world . .
It never stops, does it? I keep thinking that this will be over soon, but the truth is, between now and election day the insanity will crescendo. Then who knows what will happen?
Poor dear Kimberly. The first 51 years of her life have been the most difficult. Maybe in the next 51 years, she will wake up and learn she not a poor immigrant’s daughter.
Vankie’s father may have pain in his eyes when he gets those reports, but it’s because they won’t be able to vote for HIM.
I’ll start with wannabe Princess Ivanka but limit myself to one thought: She probably was telling the truth about pain in her daddy’s eyes when being given the numbers on Covid-19 infections and deaths. Her LIE was what evoked that pained look. It wasn’t all those people sick and dead – not for one damned second. No, it was pain brought about by fear of how it would hurt HIM – as in his chances of being elected and staying out of jail!
Now let’s talk about Tiffany. To be honest, my opinion of her mom was never all that great to begin with but after Ms. Trump Trophy Wife #2 took her pre-nup settlement and eventually mostly faded from public view I think she really did try to keep her daughter on the periphery of Trump World – to keep her from getting sucked into that toxic vortex. Even after appearing at the 2016 convention it seemed like maybe Marla Maples had managed to inoculate Tiffany from the desire to be one of the Trump Gang. Choosing Georgetown for law school could have been interpreted as something both benign and cancerous. After all, it would allow her to make all kinds of connections with high powered people and contacts with high powered law firms including some that weren’t hard core conservative. Her name alone, along with solid performance in law school would have been enough to ensure that not only would she have a very, very good paying job at a powerhouse white collar DC firm after graduation (and without concerns of paying off law school debt!) but being able to skip the 80-90 hour a week grind that rookie hires in such firms are put through for two or three years to weed out all but the most committed.
The other, darker reason was that the Trump cancer tumor had popped up in her and proximity to her half-sister and her “secretary of everything” husband she could stay on Trump’s radar. She knew she’d never replace Ivanka as their daddy’s favorite of course, but let’s face it – she’s smarter and more grounded than her male half siblings Uday and Qusay. Being a law student in DC while the idiot sons were up in NYC allowed her to ensure daddy knew that. At best she was keeping her options open, and if making an effort at treatment of the Trump cancer she wasn’t going all in to cure it. Having had two parents who died of lung cancer and others who both died and made it through the other side to being cancer free that the treatment can be brutal. Some people choose not to even go through and instead decide on pallitive care only rather than deal with the effects of the treatment.
Anyway, Tiffany got her law degree from a fairly prestigious institution and as befits a rich and connected person had her options for great jobs with great firms and in her case, as I’ve stated skipping any sort of apprenticeship and moving into Jr. Partner status within a couple of years. The thing is however, even lawyers like that still have to work. Hard. Not necessarily grueling hours but a lot more than 40 a week.
However, up there in NYC was the Trump Organization, with various parts split off in other places too. Following her older siblings into the family business, working for Daddy meant only “working” and for a helluva lot more than Tiffany would make working as a real white collar lawyer in DC until she was well into her 40s. Real, actual work. Not that there wouldn’t be perks sometimes, but nothing like the perks of being an actual blood relation to the big boss of what is after all a family business. They sure as hell need plenty of legal help.
Tiffany’s address in 2016 might not have hurt her in white collar legal circles, but after four years of her father’s Presidency, and given she knows damn well how reputable DC firms long ago made it clear they want nothing to do with him her appearance this week, and her suck-up “My dad is the greatest thing that’s ever happened to this country is the equivalent of branding a scarlet letter T on her forehead, or maybe one of those made with (fake of course) gold brands like that second Kingsman movie. Tiffany is the last person a proper, “power” firm would want in their ranks and with her name on their letterhead after this week.
She had a chance to go and make her own way in life with a head start most people can only dream of. A token appearance on the stage after daddy’s speech and a few (very few words) at a handful of campaign stops and then she could be free of him. And in fact avoiding him would have boosted her career over the long-haul. Tiffany has decided instead to jump in to that toxic vortex I referred to. She chose the easy road to a “yuge” salary paid by daddy instead of putting in real work, the kind even most rich and powerful kids have to do (at least to some degree) to make their way in the legal world.
From now on I will have as much sympathy for Tiffany Trump as I do for the evil spawn from her dad’s first marriage – as in none at all! She grew up largely separate from the terrible trio and had some actual distance from which to gain a clear perspective and a mom who tried to guide her in the right direction, having allowed herself to get sucked into Donald Trump’s toxic world. Tiffany has chosen her path and she hasn’t chosen well. She’s chosen badly, and if Trump goes down at the polls this fall and all his criminal and civil legal problems come crashing down on him all at once Tiffany has chosen disastrously because the days of the Trump Organization will be limited. It might take a fair number of years to unwind it all but if Trump loses in November the ball will get rolling – and steadily pick up speed. The crowd of employees outside the doors of NY state and federal prosecutors in NY and elsewhere looking to cut a cooperation deal will look like the line at a polling station in a minority neighborhood in a city in a red state! It might take five years or so but it will all be gone.
And with it that fat salary for part-time effort that Tiffany has opted for will be gone as well. Also gone will be her ability to gain a partnership track position at any reputable law firm anywhere in the country.
Again, assuming Trump goes down this fall when ten years from now (and afterwards) someone does a “Where are they now?” story on various members of the Trump KKKlan and Tiffany’s struggles are covered I won’t feel any sympathy at all for her. Her only security and hope will be that her mom has managed her own Trophy Wife #2 settlement well enough to keep Tiffany out of the poorhouse.
But if Tiffany does any “woe is me” whining my attitude and response will be she has only herself to blame for the rest of her life that it’s not the fabulous existence she had dreamed of. If her dad can’t steal this election she’ll have a lot of years, decades in fact to look back and lament her choice to go for the easy money.
Having been the daughter of a narcissistic mother – Ivanka is the Golden Child. She’s the favorite. Not sure who is the scapegoat – maybe Eric the most. I was the scapegoat. My sister was the GC. They play the game. I didn’t. Narcissists make everyone function from Fear/Obligation/Guilt – FOG. No matter Ivanka is the GC, she is obligated to say and do what she does because she knows there is absolute hell to pay if she doesn’t and now she has children that she needs to protect. Play the game Ivanka.
I remain amazed that too many of our allies have yet to figure out he’s playing the same games with groups of the American people. Same deal, more people.
