This has been some morning. Barely noon in the west and Donald Trump has already dropped a propaganda video depicting himself as being chosen to lead America by none other than Almighty God. That’s some endorsement. But it doesn’t stop there. Then Trump decides to inform the electorate that he is not just sent by God, but that he is what the GOP has been dreaming of for many years now, the Second Coming Of Ronald Reagan.
Those are two powerful claims to make, let alone in one day. And this is made against the backdrop of Letitia James now asking for $370 million as settlement of the Trump Organization fraud trial and Massachusetts joining with Maine and Colorado to seek to keep him off of the state ballot. But fear not, Trump’s going to walk on the water anytime now and it will all be fine.

Donald is dreaming on, that’s for damn sure. What’s that you say? Didn’t Steven Tyler tell Donald Trump to stop playing Living On The Edge five years ago, and this song, so probably he can’t use it now?
This is not the first time Tyler has ordered Trump not to use his music. The Aerosmith song Dream On was played during Trump’s 2015 election campaign, prompting a letter stating that playing the song violated Tyler’s copyright. Performance rights for the song were removed, though Trump tweeted: “Even though I have the legal right to use Steven Tyler’s song, he asked me not to. Have better one to take its place! … Steven Tyler got more publicity on his song request than he’s gotten in 10 years. Good for him!”
This week’s letter to Trump adds: “We demanded Mr Tyler’s public performance societies terminate their licences with you in 2015 in connection with Dream On and any other musical compositions written or co-written by Mr Tyler. As such, we are unaware of any remaining public performance licence still in existence which grants Mr Trump the right to use his music in connection with the rallies or any other purpose”.
Some noted an unwittingly loaded meaning to the song title Livin’ on the Edge, as well as the choice of Andrea Bocelli’s Time to Say Goodbye, as they were both played shortly after the convictions of Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen.
What is it with the Trumps stealing other peoples’ music? In all events, that’s the scene as Trump wings his way to the Hawkeye State so that he can win over “Bobblehead” “Sanctimonious” and “Birdbrain” as he refers to his fellow Republican opponents. It should be quite the show. It will be interesting to see if he persists with this Reagan comparison. Michael Reagan, back in the 2016, said, “My father would never stand for this and Nancy would have voted for Hillary.” I daresay that’s still the case, just substitute the name Joe.
Why do you suppose that, with all the great powerhouse MAGA-supporting musical geniuses like Kanye, Ted Nugent, Kid Rock and Jason Aldean, Trump can’t manage to get one of their glorious hit songs to use for his rallies and other purposes?
Speaking of Nugent, I guess we now know why the “Motor City Madman” is so fond of Trump. He got a whiff of Donald and it reminded him of his glory days of dodging the draft. (I know–that was really mean-spirited but, you know, I don’t care.)
Yup. Aldean’s “In a Small Town” would suit him perfectly.
But I doubt “Cat Scratch Fever” would work very well.
