One thing that I love about this business is that you learn something new every day. Today we find out that a body language expert, Jack Brown, opines that Donald Trump’s seemingly broad smile is actually a grimace of pain. Dr. Brown points to Trump’s “neck of fear” and I have to admit, the way all the tendons are standing out, he does look stressed. And if you look close, he’s not exactly exuding joy — but of course he has to try to do so, for the cameras, right?

If Trump had been born in a pre-cinema, pre-photography world, he would have been a hermit. He cares nothing for people but oh, how he luvvvs those boxes with the red lights recording him. That’s when he’s alive.

The photo atop this piece depicts Trump on the golf course the day after his arraignment. (The Miami arraignment. Yes, now we have to name and number them.)

Without further ado, Jack Brown’s analysis of the Neck of Fear.

As advertised, this goes on to 38 tweets. If you want to read the rest, go to Twitter and jump into Dr. Brown’s thread. He goes on to analyze how Trump’s thumbs up is not sincere and also explains why his branch of science is so important.

Recognizing the difference between sincere behavior and feigned behavior is crucial (whether it’s nonverbal, verbal, or paralanguage) in avoiding criminal behavior, manipulation, deception, financial loss, heartache, abuse, or worse.

I certainly agree. And I can only wish that the good doctor had analyzed Trump prior to this moment.

  1. Actually, it looks forced to me! Like he’s gritting his teeth! I’ve never seen Trump smile bigly! Closed mouth or pouting his stupid lips! Besides, who cares!

    • I’ve said all along that tRump needs a psych evaluation…Sigh. Somebody needs to examine the guy. Of course, many psych evals begin by having the patient take the MMPI, which consists of over 300 questions. tRump might get thru 20 or so and then decide to cheat. But the test measures that too. He can “fake bad” and try to make himself look like a monster, but he’s already a monster, he could try “faking good.” The test measures that to. But he might just get up and leave the room, it would be worth a try though!

  2. Can you see the real me doctor? Doctor?
