Do you recall a few days ago when Eric Trump crowed about how Leticia James was going to get hers on Thursday, because that was the day that members of the Trump family and the Trump Organization were going to go to court and prove how the attorney general’s investigation was politically motivated, i.e., a witch hunt? The judge didn’t buy that argument. The motion to quash was denied and Donald Trump, Ivanka and Donald Jr. have three weeks within which to show up at a deposition. That is what you call a tight rein. Washington Post:

In a eight-page decision made public Thursday afternoon, New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron denied a request by the family to quash James’s subpoenas in the civil case or to put off enforcing them until the conclusion of the criminal probe. One of the lawyers for the Trumps said he plans to appeal.

Engoron wrote that calling the Trumps to testify for the civil matter doesn’t mean their protection against self-incrimination will be trampled on, since they can plead the Fifth Amendment.

“When they are deposed, the [Trumps] will have the right to refuse to answer any questions that they claim might incriminate them, and that refusal may not be commented on or used against them in a criminal prosecution,” Engoron wrote.

Eric Trump, another son of Trump’s who has served as an executive at the Trump Organization, asserted his Fifth Amendment right over 500 times when he was deposed in the same case, the attorney general’s office previously disclosed.

Things are definitely heating up. I don’t think you’ll see Eric Trump on Fox News tonight, but I could be wrong. Don Junior will be getting stoned, no doubt, but whether he decides to share his views on social media is yet to be seen.

  1. Remember the song, “It’s not easy being green”? That came to mind, except “It’s not easy being Trump”. So, wee, wee, wee, the world’s smallest violin, etc.

  2. They’ve got one last place they can go, the State Court of Appeals, but that’s it. Hard to believe they’ll get any more of a break from them than they just did from the Supreme Court. At best, they’ll only put it off by a few more days. “And so down the road that leads to Hell/We strode a merry band,/Sargon, Balthazar, Jezebel,/Cain with his bloody hand.”–Robert E Howard, “The Dust Dance”

Well, Eric was actually correct. I mean, after all, Ms James DID “get hers.”

Unfortunately for Eric, it wasn’t quite the way he was thinking/hoping for.

As with so many “prophecies,” you’ve always got to be careful. Much like Croesus and his visit to the Oracle at Delphi to see if he should pursue a campaign against Persia, and the Oracle replied that if he attacked the Persians, he would destroy a great empire. Croesus took this as a positive sign; unfortunately, the “great empire” he destroyed was his own.
