This will positively drive Donald Trump up the paranoid wall when he finds out about it. Former DHS chief of staff Miles Taylor has formed a group called REPAIR, which is Republican Political Alliance for Integrity and Reform. The group consists of people who still work for Trump or who did work for Trump, and who think he’s unfit for office. The group’s main goals are to elect Joe Biden and then to reform the Republican party. Politico:

So far, two current senior administration officials have anonymously signed on to the effort and one of them has preliminary plans to reveal their identity closer to the election and expects to get fired as a result, according to a person familiar with the project who declined to share the names of those two officials. The person also said the group is preparing another “bombshell” to be revealed as soon as Tuesday but didn’t get into any more detail when pressed.

Trump is going to lose his damn mind! He’s got minions in the administration whose sole job is to ferret out people who aren’t sufficiently loyal to him. This will drive him nuts from here to Mar-a-Lago. It hits him where he lives, that “they” are out to get him, “they” are spying on him. Well, you know the expression, you’re not paranoid if they are out to get you and in this case — they really are.

The group is working to get between 20 and 40 former Republican officials, including people who have served in the administration, to sign on to become part of the group. {…]

“The President has demonstrated he’s unfit for office. And those of us who witnessed the chaos of his Administration firsthand from the inside are coming together to ensure that Trump is not re-elected,” Taylor said in a statement to POLITICO.

“More importantly, this organization will be planning for a post-Trump Republican Party and working with other groups to repair the GOP and repair our republic. In the coming weeks, we’ll be announcing a range of Republican talent that will be helping drive the effort, as well as new initiates to bring the GOP back to its roots, away from the corruption of Trumpism, and toward a more forward-looking agenda.”

Politico characterizes this tweet as the “bat signal” that Taylor is sending to the denizens of Trump world that he’s trying to recruit.

Trump has already called Taylor a “low life” which is a badge of honor nowadays.

REPAIR’s first big project is called “Publius Reawakened,” a series of anonymous pieces on why the current and former Republican officials believe that Trumpism has damaged the party and the nation, focusing on different topics like foreign policy, and how to repair it and get the party on the right track. Publius harkens back to the pseudonym the founders used in the Federalist Papers to persuade Americans to support the new U.S. Constitution.

The Republican party will do well to get back on the tracks at all, let alone on the right one. The minute they put Trump at the top of their ticket is when they went completely off the rails. Unfortunately, the rest of America has been dragged along, too, on a very strange side trip into fascism and dysfunction. It’s going to take us all, personally, and our government. a long while to recover and rebuild from this.

  1. Too bad there’s not a remedy for this in the Constitution.
Oh yeah, the 25th Amendment. That would require Mike Pence to grow a pair, or ask “Mother” to let him use them.

    • Pence would never admit Trump is unfit. He’s looking to be the inheritor of the Trump throne. That’s how stupid he is. If anybody is going to inherit the Trump throne, it would be Don Junior. The election of Trump has given all these creeps these grandiose ideas. And that makes sense. If Trump can get elected president, pigs can fly.

      • I wouldn’t want to deal with anyone who thinks Donny jr is suitable for any office higher than pushing a broom behinds the parade.

      • Really? Don Jr.? The guy who when just born and mom wanted to name him that & dad objected saying “What if he turns out to be a loser?” That Don Jr.? Who IS a loser who’s dad is every bit as ashamed of as Trump’s dad was of him? But more importantly has a sibling who is the actual proverbial apple of daddy’s eye – and other disturbing parts of daddy. If Trump Sr. has ever suggested Don Jr. as a successor it’s not been nearly as often as he’s touted wannabe Princess Ivanka for the position. Who has her very own office and “job” in the WH? Ivanka! Who does he let tag along and play at being diplomat? Ivanka. If Don Jr. wants to go overseas he has to fly on some private charter jet (at our expense of course) to go play his version of solider – not by real hunting but rather in game preserves with all kinds of safety precautions to keep him from being mauled by endangered species before shooting them.

From where I sit Ivanka is the chosen one, and any hints Don Jr. has had thrown his way by his dad are part of yet another cruel game of building up his hope only to publicly humiliate his son by making clear that Ivanka is his favorite!

    • Well it’s a rare occasion that she takes them down from the trophy case. His and her birthday and the every other Christmas.

  2. I wonder what they will do about the serious tRump loyalists? Of course, I don’t expect McConnell or Lindsey to remain loyal when Himself loses, but will they be allowed to benefit from the rebranding and renewal?

    • We’re going to find out, aren’t we? That’s going to be one of the first things we find out, who is left standing and how they decide to spin their post-Trump lines — or lies might be a better word.

    • I hope the f*ck not. They are not republicans. They have hooked their wagon to the jacka**. They are 50% of the problem we’re dealing with. We need to repeat over and over and over – MM / Lindsey, et al did NOT stand for their oath of office. We have to go after them as much as we go after 45. Everywhere I read a posting about how bad 45 is – I remind everyone – mostly Senate repugnants are complicit in the decimation of our democracy by 45.

  3. I can’t imagine wanting to rebrand/renew,, such a toxic waste dump as is the Republican party. I am glad they want to get rid of Trump, etc, after that, what is to trust?

    • The Never Trumpers are going to put together some kind of a new vision for the GOP. What, I have no idea. But at least they agree that Trumpism is not it. Although, the sublime irony is that Trumpism is the logical extension of all the negative strains of the GOP for the last fifty years. Racism and paternalism are baked into the GOP. I can’t wait to see what the new GOP is about. Right now it’s all a utopian vision.

  4. I think the original saying was “ just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you”. I could be wrong, though.

  5. I jave mixed feelings. On the one hand, I am happy to see this. On the other hand, my first thought was, just what we need. More ammunition for the deep state idiots. Should drive him up the wall though, so there’s that.

  6. The Republican Party is so far off the tracks, that they’re lost in the swamp. No amount of work will drag the whole thing back now, it will have to be reassembled, bit by tiny bit, back on the rails, to ever move again.

  7. Mitch McConnell better NOT be part of the “new improved GOP”. He has been the worse of them all way before tRump came into the picture.

  8. If only these Republicans “of conscience” had been as concerned 10 years ago about the state of the Party as they are now, then they wouldn’t need to try to “repair” and “reform” the Party.

Most of these Republicans “of conscience” were far more concerned with making a major power grab in 2010 and caved in to the far-right extremist teabaggers rather than telling them to get the f**k out and then deal with a few election cycles as the “opposition” party (as they had been in Congress since 2007 and in total since 2009). But the Republicans couldn’t bear the thought of being out of power any longer so they sold what souls they had (or what was left of their souls) and embraced the teabaggers.

They sowed the wind and reaped the whirlwind.
