CNN has been hosting panels of Trump voters for discussions about the evolution of his presidency and all the problems versus strengths (subjectively speaking). I have not seen a single episode, can’t really imagine why they are doing it. Regardless, apparently it is not going so well.
First, just a point. At least in this particular panel episode, I am mystified at the topics brought up by CNN. The only thing of interest to me is how the average Trump voter (whom I will not characterize negatively as an entire group, each is an individual and it’s wrong to pre-classify all as racist, dumb, whatever), what I want to know from the voter is how they perceive the increasingly unquestionable facts about his conflicts and conspiracy with Russia. Alas, at least this panel wasn’t asked.
Rather, this panel focused on Helsinki, first. When the host asked about Trump throwing his own government under the bus rather than criticize Russia – whose government officials had JUST BEEN indicted, for godsake – there was ummm, disagreement. We have the loyalist who maintain that the intelligence community, which would include the FBI, heretofore probably the most respected law enforcement agency in the world that spends every day protecting us, that same intelligence community according to the Trump voter is “out of control.”
How is it out of control? He’s not real specific, but we can be pretty sure that it actually is not, he is just parroting what he hears on Fox. They have convinced themselves the investigation into Trump is the problem, not Trump, and will not listen to evidence.
But, there’s hope, another voter, rather sheepishly, admits that is sure does appear that Trump cannot stand up to Russia, and speculates that Russia holds something over Trump.
Ya think? For the love of dogs, the Trump organization has been in bed with Russian dirty money for ten years according to none other than Eric Trump. Moreover, aligning dates with Russian activity, the meeting in Trump Tower, Trump’s call for “Russia, if you’re listening …” and Trump’s attempts to lift sanctions on Russia as one of the first things he did in office, all sure align with this guy noting, “it does seem like Russia is holding something over him.” Hell, the “thing” Russia could hold over him is that they worked together in the election.
Then we switch topics to North Korea, where the disinformation campaign is on full display. As you know, NoKo is a complete dumpster fire, moving more aggressively than ever on their nuke program, which doesn’t comfort the west coast. Yet the Trump loyalist adamantly maintains that North Korea has completely de-nuked.
