Trump Trashed At Turning Point

This is another first. Turning Point USA, like CPAC, is where the MAGA faithful gather at least once in every season of the year. The very mention of Trump’s name is treated like a holy incantation. The Secretary of Defense is at Turning Point this weekend. That’s him you see in front of the light fountains. This kind of faux-Vegas display doesn’t go on in other countries at political enclaves and retreats. But hey, maybe things are getting better. At least Kimberly Guilfoyle isn’t doing an exotic dance on camera like she did at CPAC in 2021. We could be seeing a modicum of improvement these days and as bad as things are, you take your wins where you find them.

Back to Turning Point, Charlie Kirk hosted a debate on Israel between comedian Dave Smith and columnist Josh Hammer. “Every single time, I come up here to debate issues, and they come up here to debate me and my character,” Smith said. “Listen, guys, I’m a free American. I supported Donald Trump in this last election. Yes, he did just actively cover up a giant child rapist ring, and I’m gonna criticize him for that, okay?”

And they cheered. They did not get upset, they cheered the man. When this gets back to Trump it will not only be ketchup bottle time, it will be grinding Valium up in the Diet Coke time. And it will be Susie doing the grinding, so that Donald doesn’t have a stroke.

“And I’m sorry, after all these years of us right-wingers saying, ‘Protect the children,’ come on, that’s bad for your soul if you don’t,” he [Smith] continued. “You speak up about that. It’s horrible what he’s doing.”

The crowd went wild as Smith slammed Trump.

“And, yes, have I been critical of Donald Trump when I think he gets things wrong? Yeah,” he told the applauding audience. “I mean, I think that’s what we should do. This is America. You criticize the government when they get things wrong.”

MAGA has its mind made up. And the pure unadulterated irony of this is that Trump and nobody else made up their minds for them.

I can hear Ivanka calling up from Florida and saying, “But Daddy, you said you would. What do you expect?” And of course what Trump can’t stand is that he’s now got to be accountable. That’s what’s so hilarious about this. Trump has magically managed to evade accountability. He should be on trial right now for inciting the insurrection, or interfering with the Georgia elections, or having classified information stashed in the spare bathroom at Mar-a-Lago. But he’s walked scot free on it all.

And now he can’t walk away from this. He put himself in this corner and the base simply will not listen to him and forget about Epstein. As I’ve said before, I think some kind of a cobbled together version of the Epstein report will be released.

And whatever does get released will undoubtedly open up a volcano-level can of worms. But he has no choice. He cannot wriggle out of this. He’s completely stuck and he put himself there.

That’s accurate. There has not been anything like that on Truth Social. Truth Social is the ultimate Trump fluffing machine. Trump is used to his Twitter cross-posts getting negative responses but not Truth Social, the digital Church of Trump, as it were.
