In a poll of 2,000 Brits conducted by Lottoland.co.uk who are pushing their own lousy U.S. exports, Powerball and Megamillions on an unsuspecting British Public, TFG walked away with the title of “worst thing to come out out of America” handily topping gun culture, the Kardashians and American Football.
Netflix, Disney and Coca Cola have been voted the best things to ever come out of America – with Donald Trump comfortably topping the poll as the worst.
“The TV streaming service (Netflix) was named the top US export by 38% of the 2,000 Brits polled.
McDonald’s came fourth, ahead of iPhone maker Apple, Colonel Sanders’ KFC and former president Barack Obama.
Hollywood movies came eighth on the list, with Elvis Presley and NASA rounding out the top 10 best things to originate in the US.
After Trump, the other US flops included their ‘obsession’ with guns, pumpkin pie – and the Kardashians.“
While I absolutely agree that TFG is the worst to ever come out of anywhere at anytime, I think there might be some currency bias happening with the selection of Netflix as the best, and how Elvis made the best of list and Chuck Berry did not… well, I leave you to reach your own conclusions…
And any discussion of American Worsts that leaves out denture cream commercials, Ted Nugent and Hank Williams Jr. seems suspect to me.

Guess the Brits never heard of The John Birch Society or Candy Corn.
Your title indicates you think pumpkin pie is a “worst thing.” For most people’s recipes, I would agree with you. Most people spoil the recipe with the addition of things like allspice, cloves, and ginger. Even “Pumpkin Pie Spice” contains the wrong spices.
But you obviously haven’t tasted mine. The recipe passed down in my family contains only equal parts of the spices cinnamon and nutmeg. Think eggnog, and that’s how pumpkin pie should be spiced.
Not a big fan but I would try yours given the chance. But placed next to apple any pumpkin would stand no chance with me.
Be understanding of the inadequacies of the “worst” list. The problem with doing a “worst” list in other than the country of origin is that so many of the truly worst things are so bad they never made it to those shores. I’m sure that’s the case with Ted Nugent, for example. We wouldn’t be any smarter about their “worst thing” list.
(And I notice you are comparing the two pie staples which became staples almost literally because they have no taste of their own, which makes them incredibly versatile.)

Cinnamon, ginger, and cloves are standard seasonings – try 1 tsp each of cinnamon and ginger, 1/8 each of cloves and black pepper, and mix the filling the day before. (In the fridge overnight!) – King Arthur’s Flour version for a 9-inch pie. They also have a masala variation.
My brother is the pie maker in my family. Generally apple, pumpkin, and mince for Thanksgiving, maybe also another fruit pie.
Um, Daisy, I’m not sure how you arrived at your comment. The article’s title CLEARLY states “in a British poll” so it’s not like Dino was suggesting that pumpkin pies are necessarily bad (or good, for that matter).
Personally, after checking their lists, for them to have ranked Taylor Swift as the 52nd “best” gives me pause (especially when she ranks higher than Hershey’s chocolate and Michael Jordan).
My sister-in- law makes a pumpkin pie that is so dark with many spices that it is absolutely vile. So I brought my version to her Thanksgiving dinner, and from then on her 5 boys would only eat mine. Hers was left untouched. Man was she pissed.
OK – disclaimer that I’m not Brit but Irish – but to me about the worst thing to come from the US is root beer.
I’d heard about it and, when my son was visiting the US, I asked him to bring me a bottle home. I tried it, spat it out – it tasted like dental mouth wash
Root beer is something you might have to grow up with. (Sarsaparilla is similar, but a little sweeter – it’s the main ingredient in root beer.) We like to put vanilla ice cream in it, for a “root beer float”.
Not my favorite but I like it fine. Don’t find it gross, anyway.
That’s how I feel about Vegemite.

Haven’t had a root beer float in, oh, about 25 years, but I do like it. Pumpkin pie, not so much but lots better than the Orange Mango.

The Brits having a problem with our racial inequality is real rich. Bit of the pot calling the kettle black. I would not want to be a P.O.C. in Great Britain any more than I would in this country.
I don’t know what they would want us to call soccer since we actually have a game called “football”. And no, I’ve no idea which came first. lol. It just seems like “hate” is a bit superlative when you compare it to the kardashians and former guy.
