So, in the wake of the tragedies in El Paso and Dayton, Ohio @RealDonaldChump has decided to offer his backing for legislation mandating “strong” background checks (a proposition supported by vast majorities of American voters) as long as we “marry” that legislation with immigration reform.

Immigration reform is sorely needed, but perhaps not in the fashion that Trump and the GOP would craft it.

The fly in this ointment is, of course, the House has already passed legislation mandating stronger background checks and McTurtle is keeping it from coming to a vote in the Senate:

“In February this year, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 8: Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019. This bill passed 240-190, with eight Republicans joining almost all Democrats to vote for the bill.

This bill would prohibit most person-to-person firearm transfers unless a background check can be conducted, aiming to close a potential loophole allowing the transfer of firearms without a background check at gun shows or between individuals.

The Senate has not taken any action on the bill since the House passed it.”

If you want something “GREAT” to come from the senseless tragedies in El Paso and Dayton, Mr. *Resident, tell Yurtle to get off his shell and pass HR 240-190.

Then we can talk about an immigration redo.

Preferably without you and The GOP holding it hostage to common sense gun reform.

  1. Whatever spin strategy the GOP has for this deadly weekend (which I’ve already compared to the urban riots of the late 1960s in terms of ugliness and impact), Trump is about to wreck it…mark my words.

  2. And unbelievably there are those in the media praising his “new tone” as if they truly believed it was sincere. Good grief.

  3. Oh goody, he can read a teleprompter. Has he cancelled his hateful Facebook ad buys? What is the betting on how long until he tweets hate again?
