Nothing like Donald Trump when he’s being clever. Or rather, when he thinks he’s being clever. A consortium of news outlets originally petitioned to be allowed to do audio and video taping of the People v. Trump trial arising out of the January 6 Insurrection at the Capitol. Trump’s lawyers were given until November 10 to respond to this petition.

Common sense would decree that Trump, of all people, would want to keep the cameras out so that the public can’t see how stupid he is in court. But on the other hand, it’s been argued that Trump loves the spotlight and can’t resist it. That may be true as well. In all events, Trump’s response indicates that he is eager for the cameras and can’t wait.

“In sum, [former] President Trump absolutely agrees, and in fact demands, that these proceedings should be fully televised so that the American public can see firsthand that this case, just like others, is nothing more than a dreamt-up unconstitutional charade that should never be allowed to happen again. Furthermore, [former] President Trump is entitled to present his positions in this case to the American public, including his sacred obligation as President to investigate and address fraud and other irregularities in the 2020 Presidential Election.”

Ho hum, 60 trials alleged fraud, 60 trials were concluded with no fraud being found.

There are good points to media coverage and bad points. According to the government’s opposition:

“[W]itnesses and others who appear on video may be subjected to threats and harassment. Were there an appeal and retrial, witnesses who were subjected to scrutiny and harassment on social media may be unwilling to testify again…Jurors who are seated may feel intimidated, even if efforts are made to conceal their faces. And knowing that a trial is being broadcast can lead to participants grandstanding for the cameras.”

The conjecture at this time is that Trump is going to demand the cameras be in the courtroom and then when and if they’re not allowed, use that to his advantage to claim that, once again, he’s being victimized.

I say give him what he’s asking for. Let the American people see how stupid the man is. It’s always been the case with Trump, long before he entered politics, that given enough rope he will hang himself. Let him do so publicly and in an election year, no less.

I think this could be made a Pay Per View and the money used to support cancer research or a worthy cause that both Republicans and Democrats can agree upon. I think there would be an overwhelming audience for this.

And in many ways this is a win/win situation: if this trial is televised, great. If it’s not, the Georgia election racketeering trial will be. And that may be the trial that ends up truly nailing Trump’s coffin shut.

Either way you look at it, this is good news.

  1. Careful what you wish for Don Don. You’ll end up with more than a string of penny burgers up your arse, and it’ll all be legal, and it won’t cease its operation until it gets to neutralise the head of the crime family, along with its members and management, all sitting in denial, at the board room. It won’t be malleable, nor a cathartic construct, on your part. Nor will it be allowed be a political billboard for you to paste-up your divisive cultural war propaganda. It’ll be a painful and humiliating exhibition, for you, if televised – but hey, go pick yah poison that suits you best. Tick. Tick. Tick.

  2. If the judge says “OK – fine. We’ll let the cameras in”, Trump’s lawyers will go into a blind panic once they realise that people will actually see him squirm and perform like a total demented idiot all through the trial.
