Trump has taken his juvenility out for quite a run in the past couple of days. He has fired the Bureau of Labor Statistics head for reporting real numbers (Low ones), he has told Russia that he would park two nuclear-armed submarines off their coast as a response to a tweet by a former Russian president famed as an internet troll, Trump talked about his press secretary as if they were lovers, and moved a critical witness and sex-trafficker, Ghislaine Maxwell, to minimum security prison in a near-obvious quid pro quo. Now he seems to be entertaining himself and his MAGAs with an adolescent-like response to nothing more than politics as usually practiced by Republicans, and calling Democrats “bad people” by encouraging his supporters to tell Sen. Chuck Schumer to “go to hell” in a widely spread tweet.
So what did Schumer do to earn Trump’s wrath? The same type of thing that he should have done when he allowed the GOP to skip over a major battle to increase the debt ceiling – nothing but bargaining, and from a rather weak position at that. At issue is the confirmation of a whole kettle of Trump underling appointees, ambassadors, and deputy everythings. And what is Schumer trying to extrapolate? Return funding for SNAP, Medicaid, even NOAA? Nah, Schumer wants $1 billion – pennies, in exchange for a vote.
The leader of the party that couldn’t be moved to vote on the confirmation of a SCOTUS judge (Talk about hostage taking) believes this is tantamount to betrayal.

Trump better be careful because he runs the risk of upsetting one of his best friends in the United States Senate, little better than always-concerned Susan Collins. Not that it matters to Trump, but this is basically the normal business of the Senate. Both parties work to extract concessions. True, they do not regularly move budget priorities with the confirmation process, but this is hardly a big deal, never mind extortion. It might just be an excuse to be juvenile in his manner because – as you might guess, the MAGAs simply love this. The more Trump acts like a teenager, the more they might forgive him for raping teens.

You get the idea. The more adolescent that Trump acts, the more the MAGAs love him for it. This is especially true when stirring up fury over what all could agree is nothing more than business as usual. How many times have we read of “cuts to this” in “exchange for that”? Schumer is not under any obligation to move this to a vote – see the Garland nomination.
It is worth noting the relatively mild thing about Democrats in total as “bad people.” This is wholly on-brand Trump. Anyone who doesn’t support him is automatically a horrible person who deserves this type of lashing out. Talk about babyish – this is second grade stuff, if you don’t approve of me, you are bad.
Alas, in the end, it is little more than Saturday night entertainment for this president. The fear is that Trump is feeding the MAGA beast to remind them of what they love most, all in the hopes that they forget that Trump continues to suppress the Epstein files.
Perhaps Democrats should begin to insist on a release of the files before they move any votes through. Of course, it may expose a few Democrats along the way. The difference is we believe all the rapists should go to hell – and that is a mature assessment, not born of adolescent whims.
