Donald Trump loves to deal in superlatives. Everything is the biggest, best, greatest, nothing ever like it before in history. Well, he finally did produce something that meets all of those superlatives: today’s touted “summit” in Alaska was without doubt the biggest Nothingburger in the history of all political negotiations. It was expected to be a bust, but nobody predicted this big of a bust. This summit was such a waste of time that he wasn’t worth the jet fuel to fly the planes that transported Trump and Putin to the venue. Zip. Nada. Rien. After three HOURS. But Trump made it sound great on Fox News, naturally. That part makes sense.
Hannity: Based on today, what’s your advice to Zelenskyy?
Trump: Make a deal. Russia’s a very big power. And they’re not… pic.twitter.com/EsJfDKRe4F

“Make a deal.” Like it’s so easy. And now we get to the comedy part. The man who was going to achieve peace on Day One now wants to give up altogether. Yep.
Trump: Now it is really up to President Zelenskyy to get it done. And I would also say the European nations have to get involved a little bit pic.twitter.com/yA26SOsRT3

“Not that I want to be there.” Well, I guess if we’re rigorously honest about this, we can repeat what Trump did say back in the day, that he was going to solve this conflict with a phone call. He agreed to make a phone call, maybe two or three, but that’s it. And then of course the *interview* went to the usual propaganda.
Trump: Vladimir Putin said your election was rigged because you have mail-in voting… he talked about 2020 and he said you won that election by so much.. it was a rigged election. pic.twitter.com/m8v0tXuiDQ

Sheer idiocy. But at least Trump has gone on record as stating that Vladimir Putin is now a key consultant on American elections. And we knew that. Trump was tacitly agreeing that Putin will be interfering in American elections from here on out. We knew that once the conversation went to the Russia Russia Russia *hoax.*
And Putin was perfectly happy to say that he would not have invaded Ukraine had Trump been in office. And that might be the case. Had Trump gotten elected in 2020 he most probably would have pulled the U.S. out of NATO and Putin could run wild in not only Ukraine but Poland, you name it. Good old Vladimir. He threw his useful idiot a bone.
Trump on a question on severe consequences for Putin and tariffs on China: Because of what happened today.. I don't have to think about it. I may have to think about it in two weeks or three weeks or something but we don't have to think about that right now. I think the meeting… pic.twitter.com/WPWcpnxmmg

There you have it. The magical two weeks. Now we know definitively, Putin will never have any sanctions. But we knew that already.
I wonder if we will ever see a transcript of today’s *summit.* I would love to know how three hours can be spent and absolutely not a single thing can be solved. And yes, we knew this was theatrics. Nothing surprising about that. But it was thought that at least some small headway would be made and again, this turned out to be the poster child for A Nothingburger. Put Alaska Summit in the Urban Dictionary next to Nothingburger and that’s what was achieved today.

This was an utter disaster for trump. He went in hoping for a Nobel Peace Prize and came out looking like a whipped fool. If anything, Zelenskyy must be relieved. He was worried dimwit would give away the farm and he would have to tell him to FO, we’ll go it alone. That didn’t happen, trump washed his hands of it. Now it will be up to Ukraine and its allies to finish the job. The US can sell weapons to the EU and they can hand them over to Ukraine without restrictions on where and how they are used. They are using interest from frozen Russian assets to pay for the war and that seems to be sustainable. If Ukrainians have the grit and stamina to keep up the fight, they could well win the war. But the big loser is certain. It’s trump.
I have no doubt in my mind that but for the presence of Witkoff and Rubio that Trump would have done something immensely stupid. Only the two of them (and the translators) know how stupidly Trump behaved during the *summit.*
Trumpty-Dumpty is probably so sullen because Pootie got him away from the others for a bit. I have no doubt that if not fluent Putin speaks halfway decent English. Anway Pootie probably referenced the whole Trump and Epstein bet about which of them would be the first to boink Princess Diana when her marriage tanked. And made fun of Trump by saying HE had beaten both of them. A couple of slightly out of focus photos on his smartphone to show to Trump would have been all that was needed to fool Trump’s gullible ass.
Ok, that’s some wild speculation I admit. But it’s clear Trump got played. Sitting there all that time on Air Force One waiting for Pootie to finally land was a bad look for him. I’ll bet Pootie promised HE would touch down first and be waiting on Trump. Bad as that was things went south from there. Trump was never going to get jack from Putin and if it took three hours most of it was Rubio urging, hell BEGGING Trump to cut his losses and get the hell out of there.
Knowing how badly he got played and being media savvy (he’s still got some ability in that area) he realizes his hopes of a Nobel Peace Prize are done. Worse, he took a fair amount of shit from allies over the phone yesterday preparing for today and I’ll bet during that long flight to Alaska (I’ve made that trip from DC to Anchorage and it’s a long, long way!) deep down he knew the whole thing would be flop. He might really just be giving up. Deciding to wreck as much as he can and forget about any grand accomplishments that will make history look kindly on him.
We might just witnessed Trump acknowledging he’s moved into ‘Well fuckit then” mode. If so there’s a chance GOPers in the House and Senate will start looking ahead to the midterms and pushing back some just to cover their own worthless butts enough to get re-elected.
I agree that Trump is resigned. He knows he’s in over his head. His *toolbox* of skills is limited. He’s used to buying people and bullying people. When that doesn’t work, he’s got nothing. I think he looked like a beat dog after the summit because he truly did want to have some reason to proclaim himself a great peace maker.
And hey, Hillary herself said that SHE would nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize if he managed to negotiate peace today. And she would have. And frankly, I would have been happy to see it, too. But what Donald found out is that none of this is as easy as it seems from the vantage point of total ignorance — which is where he’s lived his entire life.
“Who’d a thought Putincare would be so complicated?”
Well, Hillary KNEW Drumpf would never achieve that so she had nothing to lose by saying it. But, she also knew she could count on right-wing media making a deal of it as well and making the media look positively stupid by actually having to say something like “Hillary is absolutely right about this” without projectile vomiting or having their heads and bodies behave like little Regan’s in “The Exorcist.”
Trump himself didn’t know it, because he’s Dunning-Kruger on steroids, but this idea of a him negotiating a peace deal with Putin has always been a fantasy. Of course the media never failed to take it seriously , down to the last sound bite. I guess it’s a “great story.” Like the size of a fish you caught, or could have caught, if it had bitten. Meanwhile,I would read this coverage and say, come off it guys, you really think any of this is going to happen?
It time for trump to resign and our world will be a better place 🙃
Ah, nothing like the wonderful world of porcine aviation.
It was time for Trump to resign the day he took office.
Once again trump proves that he’s completely out of his league. Does anybody remember the BS “ceasefire” he worked out in a phone call with Putin back in March?

There is one thing to be said for all this. Putin my have “looked” like he was on his game, but he really didn’t get anything out of it either.
