This is an intriguing moment which we are observing. If anything, Trump enjoys teasing his run for a third term, most recently with a meme posted two days ago showing him laughing and pointing at Hakeem Jeffries, while sailing a “Trump 2028” red hat across the Oval Office and onto Jeffries’ head. And you well recall when certain Supreme Court justices were asked about a Trump third run and the reply was that a case hadn’t arisen to challenge the amendment that there’s a two-term limit — hardly reassuring, especially considering the makeup of this particular Supreme Court. So for this to come out of the blue on a Sunday does pique curiosity.
"… in the future when they don't have TRUMP [me] to fight for them …"
Is this the first time he's acknowledged his mortality? If so, that seems like a milestone.

I’ve always thought it was oddball that Trump refers to himself in the third person. My take on that has been that he knows that he’s a phony and that the Trump character he creates of the self-made billionaire is a complete hoax. I believe he knows all that deep down, he just won’t publicly admit it for obvious reasons.
But this is one of the few times that Trump has ever acknowledged his own mortality. Before he decided to run for a second term (two years after he was defeated the first time) he was asked about a second run and at that time he said something vaguely fatalistic, to the effect of “you never know what can happen,” meaning (said pundits at the time) some intervening force of health or accident could prevent him from running for a second term. If only America had been so lucky.
But apart from that one comment years ago, this is the first time that I am aware of that Trump has ever acknowledged either 1. His own mortality or, 2. The fact that he won’t be in office forever. So what caused this?
We can only speculate. It is possible that some doctor visit transpired and maybe, once again, a medical person suggested to Trump the sagacity of losing some weight, walking on the golf course, rather than riding in a cart, giving up the French fries and junk food and we could go on.
If anybody tells Trump the truth it’s probably Ivanka and maybe she has said to him that he would be putting several years more on his life if he changed his eating and exercise habits. That is a possibility.
The sublime irony of Trump is that he’s the only president who hasn’t visibly aged in the job. That’s because he’s not doing the job. He makes photo ops and does ceremonial things (which is what he conceived the job of president to be, as you recall from 2016.) When he won and was being briefed in the White House by Obama, his comment that day was, “I never knew there was so much work involved.”
Trump’s never worked in his life and he’s not working now, as you and I understand that term. When he was on The Apprentice the real work was done by the editors, who cobbled together something presentable, while leaving miles of film and soundtrack on the floor (including the soundtrack that had Trump using the “N” word.) Trump just winged it then and he’s just winging it now.
Nowadays our government, terrifyingly, is being run by unelected people like Russ Vought and Stephen Miller. You see what the likes of Hegseth and Patel do in discharging their responsibilities.
Or, the comment may have been caused by fellow Republicans wondering what they’re going to do when their cash cow either collapses in the field or finishes up his term of office. Expect that question, who inherits the Republican mantle from Trump, to loom large as we get through this ordeal. As stated before, I don’t see Vance becoming the golden boy. And as for rumors of Donald Junior and even Barron succeeding their father at some point, that I cannot see.
That said, the fact that we’re even discussing such a thing tells you what a Bizarro World we live in to begin with.

When the head of the snake dies…somewhere in the space/time fabric…he’s already dead. As we all are. No exceptions fatman. The real question is what awaits you on the other side. Having lived through a NDE, I can say it won’t be pleasant. In fact…take the scariest horror movie, drop acid, and materialize in the middle of it as the focus of EVIL. Oh…and since you’re dead, time/space loses all meaning…enjoy. With all the death, disease, and suffering you’ve personally caused, the Devil will welcome you, but remember, his rewards are lies. Same as you.
I agree with your theory about Trump creating a character named Trump; the created personna can be what its creator would like to be but isn’t capable. Bette Midler didn’t go onstage as herself, she went on as The Divine Miss M, her alter ego who had all the talent and chutzpah needed to get out there in front of the crowd and perform. So it is with Donald. He’s created the infallible negotiator, the stable genius, the media star, the irresistible lothario, the expert on everything: The Trump. All the things he’s not but wants desperately to be (without, of course, making any effort to realise his desires through work).
This has me seriously confused:
“And you well recall when certain Supreme Court justices were asked about a Trump third run and the reply was that a case hadn’t arisen to challenge the amendment that there’s a two-term limit — hardly reassuring, especially considering the makeup of this particular Supreme Court.”
There has NEVER been a case “challenging” any amendment (all the cases involving the Second Amendment have involved challenges to state and local agencies attempting primarily to add to the “well-regulated” part of the amendment leading to the UNELECTED justices continually–and, unconstitutionally mind you–rewriting/amending the amendment) because ALL amendments must originate in Congress (there is that alternative of the state legislatures amending but that process requires the same basic 2/3 majority to produce and 3/4 majority to approve the amendment). Any “challenges” to an amendment REQUIRE the House and Senate to begin the process of AMENDING said amendment.
ANY justices who even suggested (even in jest) that all it would take to undo the two-term provision need to be removed from their seats IMMEDIATELY because they have forsworn the oath they took to uphold and defend the Constitution. Members of the House and Senate can always present a bill that would overturn the provision (not that it would ever succeed with that pesky 2/3 majority requirement) but there is NO provision by which a lawsuit can be brought challenging the amendment.
It’s also worth noting if SCOTUS does try to use this illegal maneuver, it will backfire. How many states have tried to term-limit their US Representatives and Senators over the years only for SCOTUS to rule that *ONLY* the Congress has the authority to impose term limits on members of the US House and Senate? See, those lawsuits were brought by individuals as direct challenges to state efforts to “change Constitutional terms”–and SCOTUS saw these efforts as an “overstep” by the states. But no one–literally not even Drumpf–is being legally “harmed” by the provisions of being limited to two terms; there is NO “Constitutional” right to run for a political office (there are, of course, rights that cannot be denied–no religious tests, for instance–in a run but there’s no *inherent* right to run for an office; otherwise, state requirements of paying filing fees would be overturned and SCOTUS and other lower courts have not seen fit to do that).
