Get ready folks, a mass shooting and all the bloody carnage that comes with it is coming to your neighborhood. The gun goobers, those folks who literally love their GUNS more than life itself have gotten a decision from Trump that completes their dream of having the LEGAL ability to turn any semi-automatic firearm into a fully automatic one. A machine gun if you will. And by god THEY will!
As this article from NBC News tells us the Trump administration has just approved the sale of a trigger device that allows ANY semi-automatic firearm to be turned into a ‘machine gun.’ That’s what NBC’s headline says but it’s not quite accurate. Machine guns are a different animal than assault weapons but fully automatic assault rifles and even (now) hanguns are plenty bad enough. How many mass shootings and the tragic carnage have you seen for almost three decades now. Most with only SEMI-automatic assault rifles or handguns? Well, I’m saying right here and now you ain’t seen nothing yet. In an appalling announcement we’ve learned how little this administration and WAY too many conservatives value human life:
The Justice Department on Friday announced a settlement in a lawsuit brought by the National Association for Gun Rights. The lawsuit challenged an ATF rule banning “forced reset triggers” — devices that allow semiautomatic weapons to fire rapid bursts of bullets.
“This Department of Justice believes that the 2nd Amendment is not a second-class right,” Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement. “And we are glad to end a needless cycle of litigation with a settlement that will enhance public safety.”
Dangerous doesn’t even begin to describe how bad this is. I’m sure lawsuits from sane people and organizations challenging this (The Trump Administration obviously won’t!) but in the meantime how many of these devices will be sold? “Out there” so to speak. You think gun goobers will only buy one? Oh hell no – they will stock up on the things because they will keep buying more guns! And to give/sell if one day this policy gets overturned, just like people did with higher capacity magazines when for a while magazine capacity was limited by law.
After the ghastly, prolific carnage of that mass shooting (the murderer’s assault rifle was fitted with a bump stock) in Las Vegas where the MURDERER used a bump-stock an attempt was made to ban them. Well, the six Federalist Society groomed Justices on SCOTUS shut that down. Bump stocks became legal. For those not familiar with rifles and assault rifles (including what are supposed to be semi-auto firing only) a bump stock more or less causes a movement generated by the recoil that makes a murderous shooter’s trigger finger repeatedly keep yanking the trigger. It functionally turns the gun into a fully automatic one. Instead of having to pull the trigger 30 times to discharge a 30 round magazine which takes 45-50 seconds, a single pull of the trigger unleashed those 30 rounds in just a few seconds!
Vanessa Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for Giffords, the national gun violence prevention group led by former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, condemned the move.
“The Trump administration has just effectively legalized machine guns. Lives will be lost because of his actions,” said Gonzalez. “This is an incredibly dangerous move that will enable shooters to inflict horrific damage. The only people who benefit from these being on the market are the people who will make money from selling them, everyone else will suffer the consequences.”
Ms. Gonzales is I think more right than she knows. Today is Sunday, the ‘day of worship’ for Christians including ‘Christians in name only’ who make up the majority of people in this country. I wonder how many in the latter group will in their prayers give thanks for this new ability to mass murder? I know this: Since the decision was announced gun rights goobers have been burning up the internet (and phones) placing orders for these things, and spreading the word to their pals so they will too before a sane judge/court issues an injunction. Those who traffic in these devices will by the end of the week have made a pile of money. Enough to comfortably retire on!
I suspect except for the conservatives that lurk here you don’t think what’s happened is a good thing. Fully automatic weapons in the hands of ANYONE who wants one is as bad an idea as bad ideas get. Even conservatives I’ve known don’t think the average person should have what is in effect an automatic firing assault rifle! But many a gun fetishist believes it’s not just their Constitutional right to possess any gun they want, many believe it’s ordained by god himself. If I could insert a picture I’d include an “Assault Weapon Jesus” meme stored somewhere on my computer.
Bump stocks however aren’t the only after-market items the Rambo wannabes lust after. These trigger devices can turn ANY semi-auto firearm into a fully automatic one. Including handguns! Think about that. A mass murderer walking into a school or workplace or shopping mall carrying an assault rifle will get noticed. However, what about someone who shows up with a backpack, a gym/duffle bag or even a large briefcase? Once they are where they want to be, they can pull out a handgun (or two – I’ll explain in a minute) along with a bandolier or pouch of loaded clips. Many semi-auto handguns have clips that can hold a dozen or more rounds!
It’s appalling to imagine but you damn well should think about this: One of these despicable people doing what I said above. Just spraying out a dozen rounds or more into students, workers, shoppers, concert/movie goers etc. in a second. With not much practice a fresh magazine can be reloaded (and over and over again) and BAM! Oh, that second handgun I mentioned. A really sick a-hole would be prepared with one – to pull out of the holster they clipped to their belt before the shooting started. And use IT to ‘finish off’ folks only wounded. Hell, someone might have thirty or more magazines with them and if the non-altered handgun is the same model that’s how this could unfold.
I don’t think I’m being hyperbolic when I say this type of thing is coming. Over and over again we’ll hear the “Thoughts and Prayers” bullshit. If I believed it would do any good MY ‘thoughts and prayers” would be that everyone spouting this meaningless drivel roasts in hell – preferably after finding themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hey, if they want to enable this sh*t why the hell should we hope THEY or one (or more) of THEIR loved ones fall victim to it? Let me be clear – I don’t want ANYONE to get shot and even die at the hands of a mass shooter/murderer. However at some point shouldn’t those who furiously work to make it easy for the crazies to do their thing to get a taste of the consequences?
Well, a court fight is coming. And given the makeup of SCOTUS my bet is that as with bump stocks they will say this all passes muster under the Second Amendment. Especially since, as the linked NBC article points out the item in question isn’t an actual firearm! That’s the loophole that has been (with bump stocks) and will be again exploited. SCOTUS conservatives will offer thoughts and prayers of course. But that’s all.
I’m convinced the ONLY thing that will get several of them to change, to recognize the first, qualifying clause in the Second Amendment (“A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State” – emphasis added) means something is suffering personal tragedy. The unlikely event that on the same day, a spouse or child or grandchild will be the victim of a mass shooter-murderer. They will be at some event like a movie or play or concert, or just out shopping, or in school and get torn to pieces by a murderer with one of these after-market items fitted to their GUN. Then, and ONLY then will they at least consider the possibility of allowing serious gun regulation.
There IS a way to protect the right to hunt or defend one’s self with a firearm. However, the second amendment wasn’t put into the Bill of Rights for the reason the gun goobers say was the case, nor does it provide the sweeping “rights” they claim the founders intended. For anyone who wants to talk original intent, there is so much those who wrote and ratified our Constitution never dreamed of. You want an example of what they knew when it came to guns back then? There used to be an video on YouTube, a PSA of a guy walking into an office with a musket from back then. He shoots someone, and THEN you see the tedious process of reloading which of course provides plenty of time for people to flee. Or perhaps braver ones to tackle him and take his gun away. It seems to have been taken down. Hmmm. More fear of Trump and MAGA? Still, there are videos showing the process. Check this out:
