It is only January 8 but the incoming *president* is a much worse person than he was when he was in office before. How do we know? Because when California had horrific fires during his first administration, Trump wasn’t gunning for the governor of the state. I well remember the 2017 fires because I was living in the San Fernando Valley on the other side of the mountains from Malibu. I recall going to the pharmacy and on the drive back seeing flames leaping on the foothills. A sobering sight on TV, wait until you see it for real.
Helicopters that looked like giant insects due to the fact that they had arms extending from them dumping fire repellant, flew low in the skies. The city of Paradise, California was razed by the fire. Trump flew out to see the disaster and this was where he made his “rake the forests” stupid crack for the first time. He walked in amongst the burnt out trees with Governor Jerry Brown and then-Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, for a photo op.
Trump fumbled the name of the town, calling it “Pleasure.” Everybody let the first screw up go and on the second screw up chimed in “Paradise” like a Greek chorus, in unison. Trump got through the photo op, noncomprehending and useless, but at least he wasn’t blaming the fire on the leadership of the state. All that is changed now.

It is not the governor’s fault. But look at the set up here: a right-wing influencer announces “breaking news” and reposts one of Trump’s tone deaf and combative tweets. Then Elon Musk picks up on it and amplifies it around his right-wing hate silo, which is a pretty accurate description of what Twitter has become on his watch. And the response to the tweeter who rebuffed Trump was to call him “a fucking idiot” and announce that hero Musk is bringing Starlink to California.
I don’t know if he is or not. It’s a moot point for purposes of this discussion. My motive here is merely to show you how Twit/X is now being used as a propaganda organ to indulge and amplify Trump’s worst impulses.
Nothing and I repeat, no thing, is being achieved by the president-elect castigating the governor of the country’s largest, most populated state for a state of national emergency utterly beyond his control. Trump has his own conspiracy theory going, that between Joe Biden and Gavin Newsom, there is no water, but that’s because there was plenty of water and Newsom sacrificed it all in service of a smelt fish. I kid you not, this is the CT bouncing around the adamantine echo chamber which is right-wing and social media these days.
Truth has become a precious commodity. And make no mistake, the GOP is just fine with this. They all collectively hope that America becomes so brainwashed and lost in the next administration that the Republicans can keep the country enthralled in fear and chaos, while claiming that only they have the answers.
We are entering a dark and dangerous time in our history. Trump is a hell of a lot crazier than he was the first time in office. Now he’s a lame duck with an ax to grind and he’s going to give Mad King George a run for the money, I fear. Our Founding Fathers are soon to be rolling in their graves. Ursula, as you know, I bring up climate change all the time. A top climate scientist explained how the irregular weather patterns have produced the extra growth when the rains hit California earlier, then the drought that left so much dry material in those canyons. The winds there and the winds driving blizzards across the heartland ARE RELATED. The artic used to keep the frigid air up there, but it is warming 4x faster than the rest of the globe. We’re in serious serious trouble now that a complete MORON will decide how we’re going to deal with it. There’s a trillion dollars of fossil fuel in the ground. The greedy self destructive rich boys aren’t going to walk away. I don’t know how far away the tipping point of no return is, but anyone who has leaned back too far in a chair KNOWS past a certain point, you’re going down. Then there’s no going back. Now the rich and famous know celebrity means NOTHING TO PLANETARY FORCES. Goddamn the voters. I expected his cult to show…they are a cult after all. I didn’t expect the numbers who previously voted for Biden to stay home…welcome to HELL. Look at the once beautiful coast and tell me it’s not Hell. Oh, and these evil assholes are not going to help. A malignant narcissist is only concerned with himself, so I expect California will be a disaster zone for some time. Maybe indefinitely.
