I think we need to be ever optimistic, especially in times like today when there is so much doom and gloom. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., is a simply horrible candidate. The worst that has ever been up for any cabinet position. But yes, I know, we were writing the same sentence here last week about Pete Hegseth. But Hegseth got in by the skin of his teeth by a tie breaker. Kennedy may not be able to get the same kind of support. In all events, here’s Pence’s latest volley.

I honestly don’t know if those statistics are accurate and that level of minutae is not easilychecked. But it sounds plausible and certainly something made Trump reverse course like that and take Junior in. John Fetterman thinks Kennedy is toast.
Fetterman said after the bruising hearing that he thinks Kennedy’s nomination may be “moot.”
“It’s moot,” he said when asked if he’s still open to voting for Kennedy. “I’m not really sure how much support’s going to emerge after that.”
The Pennsylvania Democrat noted that he’s met with Kennedy twice already.
“I think we can all agree that was really a difficult performance,” he said. “I’m not sure he’ll even make it out of the committee.”
Rick Wilson chimed in as well.
In an era where, as Tom Nichols put it, expertise is dead, RFK Jr. thrives on the Kennedy name while the entire legitimate medical and scientific community is screaming that he’s a quack, a grifter, and a profiteer of human suffering. The list of things he asserts that are absolutely, utterly, unquestionably wrong is longer than the matters on which he is even in the neighborhood of being right.
As we heard from a man who thinks “African” AIDS is different from “American” AIDS — and that HIV does not cause it — and that Lyme disease is a “military-engineered bioweapon,” I was shocked today that he didn’t talk about the importance of balancing the humours or the risks of miasmic vapors.
Perhaps HHS, under his leadership, will recommend bloodletting as a remedy to the coming bird flu or prescribe boiled badger dung for measles. It’s about as legitimate as recommending Ivermectin to treat COVID. Millions of MAGA followers believe in this man, which speaks both to their lack of scientific education and to their roaring credulity.
It’s nothing short of tragedy that a candidate like this is even being considered. I choose to be nauseously optimistic and hope that for some reason, Kennedy will go down in flames. Maybe Trump will do a Matt Gaetz on him. Yes, I know, if we’re waiting for Trump to do the right thing, we’re doomed. I think you can count on McConnell as a “no” due to his experience with polio. I think Murkowski and Collins might join McConnell and as unpopular as Kennedy is, one more Republican may not be impossible to find.
Hegseth was different. Trump really wants Hegseth in that post. I don’t think Trump cares about Kennedy now that he’s gotten the use out of him that he wanted.

Someone should’ve asked him, given his background in ENVIRONMENTAL law, why he didn’t push for heading up the EPA?
At the very least, it would’ve made sure to make EVERY late night show host kick themselves for missing his inevitable response: “Well, I DID want a job in the administration that lasted longer than these confirmation hearings will last.”
It’s a waste of congress’ time and our money to have to give this piece of human detritus any consideration. Not only is he ignorant and stupid, he sounds like he;s well into dementia.
