This is too rich. One of the subplots in The Apprentice: Prison Edition, is Donald Trump’s MIA wife, Melania, who hasn’t been seen nor heard from in months — and certainly hasn’t been on the campaign trial. If she’s been conspicuously absent from one endeavor, that’s the one. Maybe she got wind of the publication of Mitt Romney’s biography and that was the last straw. Or, maybe there’s a pile of last straws, which is far more likely. Rolling Stone:

“Trump sidled up to Romney’s son Josh and pointed at a leggy brunette across the room. ‘Have you seen my girlfriend, Melania?’ he asked, smirking. ‘When I drop her, the phone is gonna ring off the hook. Every guy in New York wants to go out with her,’” Coppins recounts in an excerpt of the forthcoming book obtained by Rolling Stone.

Trump’s team did not take kindly to Romney’s characterization of his early meetings with the former president. “Mittens is a loser who is ‘retiring’ because he knows he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of surviving another campaign,” a Trump spokesperson wrote in response to a request for comment from Rolling Stone. “He should stop lying and creating fake stories in order to stay relevant. The fact is that he dropped the ball when he ran against Barack Obama and is partially responsible for the mess America is in.”

It sounds very plausible that that occurred. Trump’s comments to Howard Stern and others about Melania were how “hot” she was, how provocative her clothes were, how he had naked pictures of her in his office. This is nothing new from Trump. Melania was a trophy that he paid a lot for. And if he decided not to pay so much, and “dropped” her, then it would be a business transaction that he was in charge of. And certainly she would never drop him.

Then the narrative shifts to Romney’s depiction of Mar-a-Lago, where Trump comes across as his clueless buffoon self.

Trump rewarded that desire [to visit Mar-a-Lago] with a “surreal scene” upon arrival, as the entirety of the Mar-a-Lago staff “lined up outside in a white linen uniform, as if posed for a royal reception.” Romney remembers Trump as a “cartoon character” who strutted around the estate “like an English lord.” He found Trump both enamored of his gilded Florida residence and apparently mistaken about its true value. In one scene, the Utah senator recalls Trump leading him on a tour of the club and showing off a drawer full of “gold-colored silverware.”

Trump reportedly gloated that the Post family, which sold the club to him in 1985, “didn’t know this was here when they sold me the place” and that the “silverware is worth more than I paid for the house.”

“I’m gonna make a fortune on this place,” he added. (Trump, who has recently claimed that Mar-a-Lago is worth upwards of a billion dollars, is in the midst of a civil trial over allegations that he falsely inflated the value of his assets, including the Palm Beach club.)

In 1995, Trump’s companies had reportedly racked up nearly a billion dollars in debt. But he appeared unbothered by the outstanding liabilities, according to Romney. He claimed, according to Coppins, that Trump told him that “the only chance [the bank has] of getting anything back is if we keep up appearances,” and that ”they loan me $140,000 a month” to maintain the gaudy Trump personal brand.

If they loaned him a king’s ransom to keep up appearances then logically the place wasn’t paying for itself. I’m surprised Trump’s campaign didn’t lash out at that allegation.

The article goes on to state that Romney figured he’d never see Trump again, wrong, and that sadly he pays a private security firm $5,000 to protect his family since January 6 because Trump’s vendetta against Romney have caused him, like many other Republicans, to fear retribution from MAGA crazies.

Romney was the last recognizable Republican candidate before the party fell apart. Evidently Trump will run again in 2024, although that’s not certain, and maybe he’ll try to run again in 2028. The GOP may with Trump until death them do part.

One thing about quicksand is, the more you thrash around, the faster you sink, if nobody is there to hand you the end of a stick to pull you out with, the silence for the rest of us will be deafening, but very pleasant, except for the most important things happening in the world, not the whines of the biggest loser EVER …

Someone should tell Trump to be sure to wave goodbye as the sand reaches his wrists …

He refuses to accept the facts as they are read to him by the court … At least we usually see the printouts of the court’s actions and the stupidity of the Donald’s reactions …

Popcorn cookin’, butter melting, bowls ready, time for some reflection on the coming seasons, Thanksgiving and Christmas, we build homemade things to give away, but there is always time to watch the Iowa Women’s Basketball team blast pass other teams … Caitlin Clark has been the best BIG Ten player in the US all year, and has the trophies to prove it …
