I guess Donald Trump is bored with no rallies lined up so he’s decided to get back in the fight game. Trump used to do commentary on boxing matches back in Atlantic City and now he and Junior are going to do the commentary for the “gamecast” of Saturday’s boxing event headlined by Evander Holyfield vs. Vitor Belfort, according to ESPN:

“I love great fighters and great fights,” Donald Trump Sr. said. “I look forward to seeing both this Saturday night and sharing my thoughts ringside. You won’t want to miss this special event.”

It’s not Habitats for Humanity nor the Clinton Foundation. It’s not even Dubya painting his dog. But it suits Trump. You’ve got to admit, this is made to order for him. My only thought is how much of the time is he going to spend on fight commentary and how much on the Big Lie? I guess we’ll have to tune in to find out.

Trump, 75, is a veteran of the fight game, having hosted many boxing matches in the 1980s and ’90s at his casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Triller has dabbled with celebrity commentators before. Snoop Dogg was a part of November’s Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. telecast and also the April fight between Jake Paul and Ben Askren. Pete Davidson, too, was a part of April’s telecast.

Jim Lampley, the longtime blow-by-blow man for HBO, will call the main telecast alongside former champion Shawn Porter. Viewers will have the option to purchase either the main telecast or the Trump “gamecast” for $49.99.

You know the MAGAs are going to tune in their hero, given the chance. Let’s see if this turns into an excuse for Trump to talk about himself all night, or about Afghanistan or Biden. This has all the makings of another farce. I’ll bet Junior’s laying in plenty of stash if he’s got to put up with Daddy all night. Frankly, I don’t blame him.

  1. Muhammad Ali gave us “The Rumble in the Jungle” and “The Thrilla from Manila…..

……with Trump-O involved this one could be billed as “ The Snoozer with the Loser”.

  2. Yes, Trump used to host fights at his casinos UNTIL the Holyfield-Foreman fight. He bid $11.5 million for the fight from promoter Arum. 2 weeks before the fight, Trump tells Arum that in Trump style of “renegotiating” that he was losing money and threatened to pull out. Arum gets screwed down to $9 million. And after that, Arum refused to host a fight with Trump. Ahh, the beginning of the end of his Atlantic City casinos.

    Just another day of grifting.

  3. I wonder if either Holyfeld or Belfort (or both) would be willing to withdraw rather than have their match tainted by Trump’s presence? I don’t know what kind of purse is involved or what other stakes may be in play but, if I were one of the fighters, I’d be highly tempted to tell the promoters as long as Trump will be present, I would not.

  4. I gather there’s another video stream without the former guy, and it will be cheaper. Don’t know if that’s true, but I sure wouldn’t pay to watch/hear him babble about himself as “commentary” on an alleged sports event.
