This is another soul shriveling moment in the GOP. The standard bearer of the party has gone out of his way to disrespect Rep. Thomas Massie, who was widowed two years ago and has chosen to remarry. It’s pure Trump classlessness and it ranks right up there with his blanket rejection of “Lunatic” Marjorie Taylor Greene. It’s a terrible thing to lose a spouse, which Trump would know if he actually had any kind of normal connections with other people. He doesn’t and so he thinks that this is acceptable human behavior. This is not, and especially for somebody who holds the office of President of the United States.

This is tawdry, tacky, trashy and tasteless. This man has no business being the president of a local Rotary Club or attempting to lead a Boy Scout troup. And if he did occupy either of those posts and he published something like this on social media, he would be asked to retract and apologize or immediately lose his position. If another member of Congress spoke this way to Massie, s/he would be subject to immediate censure, not to mention social rejection by his or her peers. That’s how it is in the real world.

But Trump is not a creature of the real world. He lives in a fantasy land and always has. He’s protected by the insulation of the vast wealth he was born to and now he uses the insulation of the office of president to do his worse deeds. No other president has spectacularly misbehaved like this and so there is no mechanism to quash this kind of behavior.

It’s always been a presumption that presidents would act in a dignified manner and so there’s no need for a rule book, per se, saying, “The president may not disparage or attack sitting members of Congress, in either chamber, for any reason.” Maybe something like that needs to be created in the event that we ever find ourselves on the receiving end of a populist shitshow like this where anything goes and the rules of human decency go out the window.

I hope somebody in the GOP has enough class to contact Massie and express that Trump speaks for himself personally and does not reflect the views of decent Republicans everywhere — if in fact that’s not an oxymoron to write decent and Republican in the same sentence.

Trump has totally dishonored the party he leads with his attacks on Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie in the past two days. But unless I miss my guess? He’s only getting started.

Trump is crashing and burning, mentally, physically, and politically and it’s not going to be a pretty sight. He will lash out at all those around him until the very end. And that end will be an ugly one. This is one of the signposts guaranteeing it.

  1. I hope Massie responds with something like “Well, at least I didn’t cheat on my wife who’d just given birth to our child (who now towers over me) with a porn actress who then publicly mocked the size of my genitals.”

Then maybe follow it up with “I also didn’t pal around with a known pedophile and *I* didn’t run for President with a promise to release government files on that pedophile and then spend the last ten months blocking the release while having my Justice Department divert 1000 FBI agents looking to remove any and all references to me that might exist in those files.”

  2. Trump, being the commensurate reality TV diva and relationship advice expert – actually, he’s just a drip under pressure – is predictably, script perfect projecting again, eh!

  3. Some folks thought Trump had hit his own personal low when he mocked a handicapped person at one of his hillbilly MAGAt rallies. He hadn’t even come close.
