Interesting that this is how this news is being released. One would have expected a statement from Team Trump or an announcement on Truth Social, but instead Troy E. Nehls, the congressman who first wanted Trump to be Speaker, has broken the news.

Jordan has a lot of baggage, that’s for sure. But I can live with that better than with this image.

Is that not the stuff of nightmares, the idea of Trump as Speaker? Make no mistake, this is going to be a bitter, vicious fight between Jordan and Scalise. And Trump’s choosing to take sides in this manner is so oddball that I wouldn’t rule out him doing something whacky and deciding to run for Speaker as well. Axios:

Driving the news: McCarthy confidantes quietly have been making calls to advocate against Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), who is considered the leading contender to become the next speaker, Axios’ Juliegrace Brufke reports.

  • Scalise and McCarthy have long been viewed as rivals, with tensions spilling over into public eye on multiple occasions in recent years.
  • One of McCarthy’s closest allies, Rep. Garret Graves (R-La.), took a thinly veiled swipe at Scalise yesterday, telling reporters: “I think this whole narrative about every member of the existing leadership taking one step up is bulls**t.”
  • “The body wasn’t even cold,” one House Republican told The Messenger, criticizing Scalise for quietly launching his campaign moments after McCarthy was ousted Tuesday night.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), a founding chair of the hard-right Freedom Caucus, has received endorsements from several McCarthy allies.

  • But Jordan’s close ties to former President Trump and allegations that Jordan knew Ohio State wrestlers he coached were being sexually abused — which he denies — could cost him dozens of moderate votes.
  • Jordan also told NBC News today that he would not support expelling Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), which could anger Republicans itching for retribution against the architect of the McCarthy coup.
  • In another sign of old feuds turning nasty, Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) — a former House Republican close to McCarthy — accused Gaetz of routinely bragging about his sexual experiences to colleagues on the House floor, which Gaetz has denied.

Down the ballot, influential Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) endorsed Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) to be majority leader, snubbing next-in-line Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), who defeated Banks in last fall’s whip election.

The intrigue: House Republicans have publicly and privately expressed particular contempt for Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), a moderate on women’s issues who joined with seven GOP hardliners to oust McCarthy.

  • Mace, who criticized Gaetz for fundraising off of January’s 15-ballot speaker election, has been aggressively soliciting donations of her own after shocking the GOP conference with her anti-McCarthy vote.
  • The moderate Republican Governance Group is now considering removing Mace from its caucus.

The bottom line: “The only grudge that I know as a fact is going to last is the one we are going to hold against those eight a**holes,” one McCarthy ally told Politico.

This was an immensely stupid move to make. The House was only marginally in GOP hands to begin with and now the GOP conference is in complete chaos. And we’re in the last few months before the caucuses and primaries start up. Apparently the GOP thought process right now is that a paralyzed House will help the party win races in 2024. This I gotta see.

  1. Fellow Zoomers……is there anyone here amongst us who is truly surprised that Trump-O the Assclown, aka “The Laziest Son of a B!tch Who Ever Lived”, would make moo moo noises that he may be interested in the job, and then balk at the opportunity knowing full well that the position would require him to, for the first time in his miserable and worthless life, actually WORK??!!??!!

    ……I think not.

  2. I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump does come out and endorse Jordan himself rather than via a third-party, or that Jordan would be thrilled. Jordan however isn’t a rational person and the lesson that everything Trump touches dies is lost on him. Having Trump go “all-in” might be the worst thing for his chances, especially given that GOPers (not just in the House) find themselves thinking “where’s the beef?” with his hearings that were supposed to destroy all things Biden.

  3. Former guy supports a guy who supported a doctor who molested student athletes. Why am I not surprised mango man would seek out the lowest. scuzziest, most dishonest candidate for the speaker-ship he could possibly find. Short of pizza gaetz that is.

  4. Let’s see…Trump helps Jordan…as speaker, he would be the third in line to the presidency…then putin helps Trump by an ‘accident’ that takes out Biden/Harris. Jordan becomes interim president. Jordan pardons Trump and all jan6th traitors. Jordan, as puppet, does trump’s bidding to continue to weaponize the government to install him as ‘president for life’. Putin gets Ukraine as payment. Seems like a viable plan. Bye bye democracy around the world. B E A UTIFUL!!! THANKS AMERICA!!!

    • More likely that Gymslip appoints Trump as VP and then has an accident with an upper floor window, Trump then takes over and returns Alaska to Putin

  5. I was impressed. Jordan put on his suit coat for his talk on McCarthy. Now Trump is pretty well out as speaker. Specific note in speaker rules states you can’t have a felony with over two years on it. Now they probably could argue that down on the one he’s got. It’s the other 90 that could be a problem. And something old Gymbag might want to think about. Reportedly the wrestling scandal is heating up. They got a victim survivor thing going through the court system. And from the report I read on it they are kinda pissed off at Jordan. They don’t think it was right to report abuse to your coach and him acting like it’s part of the program. And since they believe there are in the neighborhood of 170 young men affected by this and they are in the process of suing the college which from what I read about that is basically settling on a dollar figure. The college and the law are interested in finding out why Gymbag didn’t report this. And there are credible outside witnesses that have testified to Gymbag knowing about it with I believe one instance that comes to mind was they witnessed the doc pleasuring himself in the shower and told Jordan and he responded that’s the doc. Not exactly the response you would want to hear especially in court. Only thing keeping Gymbag afloat is him being in congress. But that could change if he goes for speaker. Especially since he’s already 500 days into blowing off a house subpoena already. And now they leaked that Trump can’t do it because of indictments. Them boys might get to thinking if you know what I mean. And oh yeah, it’s been said Jordan doesn’t want to testify under oath because of his conduct on J6. Wonder why that is. They already got out of him he was texting back and forth with Trump that day. Kinda interesting 🤔 if you ask me.
